I’ve just come across this video which analyses a video made by a YouTuber called Trevor Jacob.

From what I can gather, Trevor Jacob suffered an engine failure over mountainous terrain. Fortunately he was wearing a parachute and his plane was covered in cameras. Naturally, he bailed out and filmed it all for posterity.

It looks completely planned for the benefit of his social media profile. What a tool.

Heard about this recently at work. Just seen the video for the first time. Certainly looks odds to me.

Nothing looks genuine at all, except the aircraft being destroyed.

Priceless.

Covered by cameras - but he may find the plane's not covered by insurance!

Loved the way the prop did start to windmill once the plane picked up speed....

Allegedly it was also the first time he'd filmed himself flying whilst wearing a parachute.

I saw that the FAA are investigating, not only the cause of the crash, but also the pilot's actions. It looks like it's been done for internet views rather than as a real emergency but without actual proof it's just a supposition.

It must have taken him all day to get a Cub up to that altitude. Video looks very odd though.

It’s not a Cub. It’s a Taylorcraft of 1940 vintage.

He had all the cameras in the right positions to capture it all, and luckily remembered his selfie stick when he bailed.

Then chartered a helicopter to lift the wreck when he found out it’d be investigated.

Aircraft flew really well after he jumped, well until it hit the ground.

I expected it to just fall out of the sky with no one at the controls.

I'm not a pilot obviously.

Trying to flag down a car in the middle of Buttfek nowhere USA and I'd expect to get shot or kidnapped.

I'm not an American obviously.

Cubs etc are dynamically quite stable, it makes them easy to fly. Mr Yootoob sounds like a complete tool.

There were a whole bunch of light aeroplane designs that came out in the mid 1930s that followed a very similar pattern. The UK manufacturer Auster based their designs on the Taylorcraft. In fact, I think they paid Taylorcraft a licence to manufacture their designs. The main difference between the Taylorcraft and Auster aircraft was the engines.

Taylorcraft

Auster J

Piper J3C Cub

Piper PA-18 Super Cub

What a waste of a lovely aircraft. This guy needs to go to jail, that aircraft could have landed on a house etc.
There is no way that was legit. Go pro on the boogie down... yeah right.

Not if Eric turns it into a plane geek thread.

That's what upsets me the most about the incident. It was a genuine vintage aircraft that he thrashed just to push his own ego.

If I had pursued my PPL decades ago it's a Cub, Taylorcraft or Auster type aeroplane I would most liked to have owned. They are charming.

I thought that was the whole point of this forum.

Sorry if talking about aeroplanes is frowned upon here.

I do feel my contributions are no longer wanted here. Fair enough. I'll bugger off then.

Plus, when you have 100k+ posts we allow artistic licence, random rambling postings, throwing of toys out of pram and generally being omnipresent.

Its all part of the platinum membership, you will find out in ohh... 95 months or so. smile
