Thanks! I know nothing about this. Why/are the wing tips "hinged" ?

ETA: They just answered my question.

Holding due to inclement weather. Is it even running? no strobes going.

This is unusual in as much as the pilots will lower the wing tips manually for this flight. In normal circumstances and in service, the winglets will deploy at 50mph

Ooh look at me! I'm like EricMc!!!

Is that right? I thought the wingtips extend by pilot command for take off and then fold automatically below 50kts on landing?

Correct, pilot command on departure, <50kts on landing. The deployment time seemed quick as well, not what i'd read.

Deployment time is 20 seconds apparently.

Just for anyone confused, the wing is flat (Longer) in flight and the wings fold up (making them shorter) at the ends on the ground so it can park in normal parking stands.

Just reading an overview document Boeing sent me in early 2019, yep 20 seconds to locked but only 6 seconds of actual movement.

Yeah the locking and unlocking must take a bit. Do you have an agreed position to deploy yet at LHR?

Looks like the weather is just south of the field.

Not yet. I know we were concerned about deployment and runway occupancy, but it's gone very quiet. I'll ask Monday.

Any idea what the minima is for this flight? Gusting at 27k earlier. I'm surprised they haven't scrubbed it.
