Oyster and Spirit yachts

Does anyone have any insight into either, or both?

Both company's designs appeal and I am looking to go and have a chat with Spirit yachts soon as they effectively 'just down the road'.

If you are buying a recent Oyster secondhand, get a good survey. Polina Star III's keel fell off and Oyster did not cover themselves in glory with the way they handled it.

The company itself was only a marketing & design operation, most of the actual boatbuilding is outsourced to a small shed in Norfolk.
Not sure what the post-bankruptcy owner's plans for it are.

I'd also add Amel into that list, they have a really good cockpit with a proper wrap around doghouse. I personally don't like the layout but they are very well put together.

What are your plans? The only similarity between Oyster and Spirit is the very high price.
Very different boats for different purposes. As said, Discovery would be the Oyster alternative for a new build.

Fairly trouble free just the ancillary bits that had usual sorry of issues like a winch and furler jamming, other wise all good. These ate al bought new some 15 - 20 years ago.

Why not have a chat with someone like http://www.kerdesign.com and have your own bespoke boat designed and built to your own specification?

Jason was my flat mate at Uni and is one of the very best yacht designers there is, although he wasn’t best pleased when our other flat mate and I left his final dissertation tank test model leaning against a hot radiator all weekend whilst it was curing, meaning he had to prove everything on starboard tack only, as it had warped something chronic. Still, no harm done, he’s designed some world class yachts since

My understanding of oyster is they’re standards had slipped from the quality they produced 15-20 years ago. It will be interesting what happens now they’ve had a buy out.
