Voyager trains - brakes

Started my daily commute on the train and noticed that the Cross Country Voyagers, actually Virgin ones as well seem to have different brakes on certain sets.

Some seem to have the brake disc as part of the actual wheel and others have far more conventional brakes set inside the bogey. Anyone know why this is?

What you've noticed is probably the different designs of bogies that are used on Voyagers (non-tilting trains with inside frame bogies hence exposed wheel faces, as used by CrossCountry) and Super Voyagers (tilting, traditional outside frame bogies, as used by both Virgin and CrossCountry, the latter with the tilt mechanism disabled). The inside frame bogies are lighter so help with overall mass of the trainset and therefore the amount of track they can run on, useful for the CrossCountry network.
