Hmm how old was that aircraft and how long since last refurb?

If it was just the control unit [?] fine but was there another fault that set it off?

IFE is one of the major power consumers onboard aircraft with lots and lots of wiring involves with the system[obviously].

I am always amazed how much electrical heat there is in the cabin of a modern airliner. Even when empty on the ground on a cold day, and just on an aux supply, the heat from the IFEs and seat accessories can take the cabin temp to 35C+
