Not sure if we've had this 40 min video of a repower of a Hatteras 53'. Old ones out, new Yanmars in. Well there's a bit more to it than that.

Yes, I saw that on YBW this morning and watched it over coffee.

I didn't know they made Yanmars that big.

I would guess the total cost of that lots was north of a couple of hundred thousand dollars.

Don´t know about that one, but the bigger 4 and 6 cylinder ones are. Some of the 4 cylinder Yamaha diesels are Toyota engines too.

The Nanni 4 cylinder is from Toyota but when you take the head off it has Yam stamped into the parts. The shims for the tappets are just the same shimming process as the motorbike DOHC heads.

So maybe Yanmar, Nanni, Beta Marine etc just take existing blocks and add marinising kits?

I think yours is a Kubota block, have a look with a torch to see any stamps. The other option is a Mitsubishi block.

I'm not too bothered really; it seems to work very well and that's the main thing. The only odd thing is why they made it 3-cylinder (which is probably why it wobbles about 1" L-R at just above idle). Four smaller cylinders would have been more sensible.

We stepped up from a wobbly single cylinder Lister to a 2 cylinder Yanmar GM on Dad's boat from the 1940's. Such a leap forwards.

My little Nanni 14hp is a Kubota, same as equivalent 2 cylinder Yanmar. I checked them all out when I was looking to buy. I chose the Nanni because the filters, oil change pump, and raw water pump where all at the front of the engine.
They fit the Kubota units in mini diggers. If they´re Paddy proof, it´s good enough for me!
Also some of the Northern Lights gen sets have 4 cylinder "Luger" engines, which in fact are also Kubota.
