For those of you that have been to RIAT before, which day is best? Sunday appears to be cheaper but I've no idea why, normally the Sunday would be the more expensive elsewhere..... Any experiences? thanks

Can't answer your question as I haven't been in years....but why has the USA declined to participate? Surely even with the aircraft and personnel based in the UK and at war, they'd have plenty to send over to Fairford? frown

Budget restrictions. They've even grounded the Blue Angels and The Thunderbirds this year - so airshow participation in the continental US itself is cut back.

I guess Saturday's are more popular as people coming with familys etc from large distances can have a lie in on Sunday to recover ,Display is more or less the same for both day's (haven't checked for this year)unless something has to go elsewhere and display

Pot luck. Saturday's been poorer last couple of years when weather has mucked things up, but that's lap of the gods territory.

Cheers Eric for the info. Shame, as they always had a fantastic static display as well as flying.
So which would be the best airshow in England to go see? Still Fairford, or somewhere else? I hear some of the free airshows are also pretty good.

As Eric said budget cuts, they've had to ground 1/3 of their air assets!

I was gobsmacked when I saw that on the site.
RIAT must be gutted.

I know I'm gutted. I was overseas last year and missed the B2 and osprey but thought there may be a chance this year. Ill still be there though for all days.

To a certain extent the east europeans are filling the gap with MiGs and wotnot. There will be some US military aircraft there – P38 and F4U. (which is why I'm going - love those things)

I have a weekend ticket so hopefully it won't rain smile I haven't been to an airshow since I was a kid and that was at Finningly!

I'll be there, flying in Wednesday/Thursday I think, so we'll have to grab a drink and take some shots.
