Saying that, Russian aircraft seem to be good at taking a whole heap of abuse.

Is it actually mud or is it just dirty water? Looking at the surrounding area it looks to me as though it could just be melted snow.

It'll be melted snow. The roads are like that around April time when the snows melt.

It won't be good for the aircraft to take off in, there will be a lot of large particles in the muddy water which will be ingested into the engines and the drag caused by the deep water on the runway will severely affect performance.

It's Russia though, they won't care...

That is unbelievable.

Especially considering that is Sheremetevo, which is one of the major hubs of Moscow.

Maybe they had to pay extra for the de-icing on offer and just thought they'd chance it...?

Yes, a mate of mine was telling me about the number of times his father (works for the CAA) has had to prevent russian pilots taking off from the UK because the plane was unsafe. oil leaks, fuel leaks, cuts to tyres, or damage to the surface of the aircraft. they dont give a damn. Scary.
