Watching the debate on Newsnight about Police and civilian Drones and the possibilities for surveillance. Some of them are quite small and the pictures are HD quality. Not the sort of thing you want hanging around your Garden. However they did show footage from a demonstration in Poland. Shot by a Drone flying FOR the demonstrators. So we wouldn't want the damn things around and the Police would be looking to operate there's without interference. Brings up the possibility of Counter Drones. The Police obviously wouldn't want them hanging around but their own are very vulnerable. I'm thinking along the lines of the "streamers" you see Model aircraft carrying which are carried in Model dogfights. It wouldn't take much to "drop" streamers that could down a Drone. And the Model Aircraft pilots will be so much better than the Police to start with....

I'm sorry, what? The tech is scary... I fly an un-manned helicopter 1.5m rotor span that has the ability to autonomously follow waypoints and recover and land
after having done so! I reckon it'd lift 2kg, that's a lot of plastic explosive that somebody could instruct to fly somewhere.... First person View (F.P.V.)
flying is becoming very popular, this also could be a major threat. Sadly, I can see it all getting banned from the public domain very shortly...

The FPV tech is becomming quite worrying for many of us regular RC pilots. A fellow DLG competitor who flys at Richmond park was watching the external monitor of an FPV pilot and noted that the pilots model was flying over a roundabout that was about 2 miles away! That is illegal as the pilot needs a spotter and no way could the spotter see the model.
It is only a matrer of time before the wrong people realise that this tech can deliver a 3-4 meter span model filled with Semtex to a location with pretty good accuracy.
If this happens, it will ruin my hobby. FPV should be banned or heavily regulated. It is a wonderfull idea and I would like to have a go but it really is a 'ticking time bomb'.
