that will just be the 'admirals club' lounges in the US airports. They are open to anyone to buy access to, and they have to buy drinks. As a international biz class traveller you are entitled to free drinks, and can ask for more 'raffle tickets' from the front desk.
The AA 1st Class lounger in ORD is (was) very nice... as is the LHR one.
I've only racked up 1.6 million AAirmiles so not in the league of the guys in the article!
