Done a bit over the last couple of years, and always had good fun. Thinking about buying one. Now - the price. New ones are pricey - half decent ones seem to cost arund 700, and you can spend up to 3.5K for some crazy kevlar/carbon fibre mix from novacraft. I'm sure you could spend more if you wish.
Now, I know this is a personal thing - but those who have gone for the cheaper ones, have you since used the Royalex lite ones from Novacraft and thought it a better investment? My own line of thinking is buy once, buy well - and so looking at the Prospector 16 from Novacraft, at around 1500.
Any advice?

I've got an Old Town Penobscot in royalex.
I'm not sure how much difference it makes to performance with the type if paddling I do, ie messing around on still water.
However I can load the boat onto the car by myself, not sure that'd be possible with a standard plastic boat.
You should also consider where you're going to store it, they're bloody big things to have sitting around your garden.

I ended up getting myself a Gumotex Sunny inflatable. Benefit of it is the ability to pack it up into a large backpack (that it came with) making storage at home/loading into a car/carrying to an awkward spot to launch from a lot easier.
Once you are there you do then have all the rigmarole of inflating it and I'm sure a rigid is a lot better on the water. Worth mentioning as a possible option though. The chap who owned the shop I bought it from takes his on holiday with him while his wife sits on the beach.

Yeh storage has given me thought. We have a double garage, so I'm thinking that hanging it from the rafters is best best, with a third anchor point being a chain+padlock.
Thought about an inflatable, but I'm not sure they handle as well. The prospector hull is supposed to be a very good all-rounder.
