IR renewal on a twin engine - Suggestions please?

Hello there!

I have an Frozen ATPL-A, and right now I need to renew my IR on a twin engine.
It expired June 2011.


I'm asking if someone knows a place (outside Oxford AA, where they asked me close to 3k £) with good quality, where I could rent a twin (Seneca PA34 alike) for a couple of hours with instructor, and examiner to renew the bloody thing.

Any previous experience with the recommended instructor is welcomed.

Rather than hire a PA 34 or the likes, have you thought about looking for an FNPT II simulator or the likes? Would save quite a bit in costs when all you need is the signature in your licence.

I'd also suggest Pprune to look for more detailed info.

No experience of the commercial side (have only heard good things though) but have you considered Tayside? I know they do IR training on a Seneca or FNPT II in Dundee and they might be a bit more reasonable than schools in the south.

Tried exeter? Apparently very very reasonable but a little spit n sawdust. Most of my buddies used it for their ir.

All is noted, and as soon as I finish moving to the new flat, I'll be calling all these people, and renewing the bloody thing.

I've previously renewed my Multi IR at Professional Air Training and found them to be very good. I wish I'd gone there for my initial CPL/IR training instead of Oxford.

It will mean converting to the Duchess which is no problem. (No turbo chargers to worry about). They can get you up to speed in their simulator if required.
