At what point does a microlight became what you might call, a normal aircraft ?

When it exceeds a designated weight?

Anyway, yes, very cool toy!

SSDR 115kg max empty weight

Microlights 450kg MTOW (Although I believe there is a 12kg added allowance if you carry a ballistic recovery system B.R.S.)

Great! Now the air surrounding your local farmstrip, once filled with the pleasant whirring of Rotax engines, can sound like Heathrow of a weekend......

Yes you still need a licence. Foot launched you don't. Looking at the run in the video I'd guess 300m + LOL I'm off the floor in about

Very marginal on power and seems to have a right roll tendency judging by the predominant aileron position.

Take off reminded me of the early jets, long and slow to accelerate but ok when at speed.
Guess they'll trim out the apparent turn, it was it's first flight wink

youtube blocked at work, got any pics?

I'm assuming it's a microlight with JATO or such like?

There you are :-) They've strapped two twenty kilo thrust jets where the engine pod is.

It did have a turn and also suffered mild flutter at around 80 knots eek

472.5 allowance if BRS fitted to 450kg microlight smile

OK more than I thought. My Tanarg is cleared and has the fitting hard points for one, never really felt the need though :-)

would it only be any use in a failure of the wing structure, which with annual checks is presumably pretty remote? coupled with the fact that engine failure could lead you to throw the BRS and potentially cause you more grief than if you had tried a dead stick (bar ; ) landing

Would be potentially quite handy after a mid-air.

I don't fly high enough for a mid-air :-)

Would certainly lower the air resistance if the pilot wasn't wider than the cockpit!
