Red Arrows to re-equip with Typhoon?

Apparently the Hawk production is to be stopped in the next few years with the Typhoon to be used as a possible replacement?

I know it's only journalists talking about it, but they clearly got the idea from somewhere!

I very much doubt it.

The new generation Hawk is just entering service with the RAF. If the Red Arrows re-equip it will be with these.

It would be nice but knowing we are somewhat brassic and that every Typhoon costs a gazillion pounds and is needed in some sandy country to force regime change, I expect it will be prop-driven trainers. Tucanos?

Probably about 150%

Typhoons 60 K per hour in the air for maintenance costs, times that by the amount needed and then by the hours they need to fly

The Hawk T1 is still good til 2018, and the next generation Hawk is more likely a candidate as Eric says.

Judging by the financial position of this country that might not be a bad idea.

I have no idea how much it costs to run the Red Arrows, but it must be eating at Harry and Williams inheritance something rotten.

It's an excellent and well researched story. Apparently T1 production is about to end - pretty sure the last T1 left the production line quite a few years ago (maybe even while it was still at Dunsfold?)

Sparrows will see their 50th year in 2015.....after that though is anyones guess.

No way will they get Typhoons x 9 painted red........ only way Typhoons would likely happen is if post 2015, the Reds are disbanded and the RAF return to the pre-Reds era of rotation of front line Sqn duties as RAF display team......most likey just as a 4-ship Tiffie flight, rather a 9-ship Reds type formations.

Don't think the numbers of new Hawk that have been ordered will allow for equiping the Reds, so don't think a conversion to newer Hawk will be on the cards either.
