Have to say though Jon that seems to be handling it a lot better than maybe some might expect. It's always hard to see the sea conditions from a video or photograph but I'd guess that is nastier out there than you might expect. Not too much roll and no slamming, the spray rails are effective and it obviously has the bow lift to stop getting one through the windscreen.

As for you Mr Huntsman, yours was born to be in the air.

Rough is when the coffee mugs bounce off both sides of the cabin walls, hit you in the face then float away on the wave that's just flooded the cockpit in two feet of freezing water.

Very rough is when this happens for 8 hours non stop.

Agreed, that might have been a F4-5, but slight sea state.

Round the Island race this year was significantly more interesting than that.

(27 foot waves, etc.)

I suppose if we are using Beaufort which technically is not a wind speed but an observed sea state used to assess the likely wind strength then the description would be:

Moderate waves of some length. Many whitecaps. Small amounts of spray, 6-9 ft wave height. Giving rise to an estimated wind speed of 18–24 mph or 'Fresh Breeze'

However that would be what's observed in open ocean not shoreline, channel etc.

Basically an argument that can't be won either way as Beaufort can't be used inshore in it's intended manner as the sea state isn't necessarily indicative of wind strength.

'5 - Decidedly lumpy'

This is calculated on the percentage of the G&T remaining in your glass after 60 seconds.

9 is when you can't find the glass
10 is when you find the glass but it's on the ceiling because you've capsized.

And G&T left in your glass after 60 seconds has nothing to do with sea state more that you shouldn't pour it in pints.

You should be careful too; from the photos I've seen of your boat it could break up if a seagull lands on it
