On Friday 17 June I was in Paphos and saw a large military plane, similarly proportioned to a Hercules but with four jet engines, flying low over the sea. The OH tried to get a pic but ended up with just a photo of the sky! A quick Google suggests that it might have been a C17. Is this correct, and which country might it have belonged to?

Could be an RAF C-17. Also used by the USAF, Australia and Qatar.

and isn't there a 'Squadron' ( 2or3 ) of NATO badged ones ( similar concept to the NATO E3 set up) + a USAF one loaned to the Nato 'squadron' plus the Canucks and UAE have them and the Indians are getting them ( though they haven't got any of theirplanes yet iirc)

The three NATO ones are operated out of PAPA Airfoce base in Hungary.
