I thought the US didnt use swingwing aircraft in the Navy...
at 0:36 ... The two aircraft in the front look like F-14's ... I thought these were scrapped in favour of the FA-15 Super Hornet .... im guessing this film is a few years old then .... I thought the F-14 was end of life in about 2005 / 2006?

They are F-14s - which are/were swingwing aircraft and were used by the US Navy from around 1974 to about 2006. They have been retired in favour of the new F-18E Super Hornet.

The only air arm currently using F-14s is the Iranian Air Force.

The film clip is obviously not brand new.

Cheers Eric, I thought I was loosing the plot for a second .. the Video Date is 2010 .... threw me a little. God I miss the F-14 ... not because of Topgun but I just love the stance the aircraft has .. like a Falcon

Quite a few F-14 pilots were not happy giving the F-14 up for the F-18E.

Incidently, complete change of subject here... for the last few days, weve been "buzzed" by a Tornado ... both with wings open and swept.. Not sure what it is doing in the Hampshire / Wiltshire countryside...

Hmm interesting... I didnt know they had Tornado's at Boscombe Down ... we regularly get Alpha's and the offasional Hawk, plus more reciently a few VC10's / C-17's comming and going.... Will have to go and investigate further ...

to be fair, its unusual to see Jets down here ... Apache's / Lynx 2 a paenny .. odd Merlin / Chinook at low level is quite common too.
Have seen the AVRO Andover up reciently...
So when you hear the roar of a jet... it makes you take notice

Not really heard the Andover referred to often as the Avro Andover. Technically, you are correct, as the original design was the Avro 748 - which became the Hawker Siddeley HS748 after 1962. The Andover was the HS748MF (MF for Military Freighter).

If it's from " Extreme Machines" the programme dates back to 1997 / 1998.

Also on that video is the S-3 Viking, which was retired in 2009 from performing functions similar to the nimrod. An interesting choice given a sub is probably the most likely way to destroy a carrier, but I presume that other toys have taken up the slack (hellychoppers)
