There are several such ships prefixed 'Ever'; Ever Genius is at Felixtowe.

If the events of sixty five years ago are anything to go by, US support for us in that part of the world is far from guaranteed.

I guess the US isn't as dependent on the Suez canal as we are - Far Eastern goods come across the Pacific. They might be more interested if the Panama canal was blocked though.

Out of interest, what’s the value of a vessel + cargo like that likely to be? At what point do you (as the insurer) just tell them to keep it? Or is the crew the issue in doing that?

Talking to someone last night who works in international insurance, the feeling was that the ship's owners had to concede something otherwise none of their ships would have been allowed through the canal... which would have knackered them somewhat.

I was thinking more they might not take the "impounding" of the US servicemen and equipment on board that ship with good humour.

Whatever the reason, it's definitely underway now. Syracuse is a long way behind it's current position.
