One bloke making a fuss shouldn't be allowed to stop anything. There's far too much weight given to noisy minorities.

I expect his grandfather was the one complained about the Dambusters practicing over Derwentwater etc.

But... be very careful. This type of person might well garner support.
An ex of mine lives very close to the airport, and she says that depending on exactly where your house is, the noise is ridiculous.
I gave her a load of info, and now she loves it!

Perhaps the airport should have the moany git round for a tour of the whole facility. He might change his view.

The noise David Smith makes when talking is upsetting several people so he should shut his stupid trap.

I would guess the engines are just usual jet engine noise at tickover, doubt if they will be revving it up to generate the Vulcan “howl” personally I love the noise it makes on take off and it is not for a long time.

Reminds you when British aviation was at its best. RIP TSR2
Our 'friend' would have had the opportunity to hear the howl last night ! Twilight taxy run & parachute braking, search XL426 or VRT, Vulcan Restoration Trust on YouTube etc if you're interested.

Engine runs and taxy runs take place a handful of times a year, There probably was an engine run post winter servicing and another test is usual before a public event like last night. At an airport that has jet airliners and the potential for night flights. The contemptible fool should be more worried about the recent announcement of Easy Jet returning & new flights.

The airport dates as far back as World War 1. Vulcan XL426 has been maintained and operated by the VRT charity for decades. This bitter, small minded, killjoy, could just aswell moan about the noise and traffic around Roots Hall football stadium every other Saturday !

As i read the article i genuinely thought it was about to say twice a week.

Twice a fking year!

Get a grip.

I would like to know when they next start it so i can go and have a look.

If i ever start complaining about things like this i think i will have to be put down.

The more worrying thing is that the BBC chose to make a news story of it. Oxygen and publicity etc.

Twice a year for 40 minutes? If it annoys Gary and Karen they should do it twice as often.

Years ago, I remember being at an airshow and an F15 came over and set off half the car alarms in the car park.

Shortly after, XH558 came over, and went full throttle to climb away. It got the rest of the car alarms.

Awesome plane.

complaining about the noise made for 45 mins, twice a year..... idiot!

There's no valid complaint here, I was just pointing out this isn't at all similar to a typical hi bypass or bizjet during takeoff.

The Olympus engines used to be maintained at Nantgarw, Caerphilly and testing of the engines was widely heard throughout the village. I believe they had a water system in an attempt to keep the noise down and manage exhaust gas.

A DIY water spray could be knocked up if there's a hydrant nearby, loops of steel tubing with lots of holes drilled around the inside, cheap enough to try out and see if it knocks it down a few dB.

Apparently he made approx 1000 complaints in the last year.

It's not just the Vulcan at Southend, there's the 727s and then the RAF visit from time to time......

1000 complaints? Habitual complainers like him should be banned from this, vexatious and just a habit seeking attention he has gotten into.

It would appear that David Smith lives 3/4 of a mile away.
