Pair of high-flying RAF Typhoons heading into Black Sea area, presumably from Cyprus.

Most likely escorting a R135

OK. Just switched their transponders off. There’s loads of long haul civil airliner traffic at 41,000ft just there. I wonder if any of the various Emirates/Etihad/Singapore A380 passengers spotted the Typhoons?

I think the Doomsday plane has been spotted on this thread. I've just seen this -

The USAF has officially awarded Nevada-based Sierra Nevada Corporation a contract to develop and produce a new “Doomsday” aircraft to replace the E-4B.

Officially known as the Survivable Airborne Operations Center (SAOC), the new aircraft will be hardened to withstand a nuclear attack and have all the secure communications equipment required to command the USA’s nuclear arsenal while airborne.

It is widely expected that the new platform will be based on a current commercial airliner design.

Boeing had previously considered bidding for this contract but withdrew in 2023, leaving Sierra Nevada as the sole bidder.

Increased activity this week on the evenings with Draken out of Teesside Airport, which is probably what the Typhoons you heard were out for.

Heard and seen plenty of warbirds out of the bedroom window this afternoon. First a P41 Kittyhawk, then a P47 Thunderbolt, then a P51 Mustang and just now a Yak 3.

First time I’ve dropped into this thread & apologies if I’m teaching my granny etc, but there’s a WWII display team based at Sywell, about 5km west of Kettering. One of my local indicators of summer. A) swifts arriving B) Sywell warbirds overhead.

Sitting outside with a cider, I heard an aircraft, nothing came up on Flight radar or ADS B exchange,

I managed to get a photo with the phone though, not something I've seen before!

Was that taking off? We used to go to Cyprus quite often, and visit ladies mile, you occasionally got a loud jet roar.

It did certainly have a sound I didn't recognise. We get the Voyagers going over quite a few times of the day, they're quite distinctive as well.

Just had a Chinook go over (South Bucks). It took off from just outside Basingstoke, went up to RAF Benson before heading over the Chilterns and down to Pinewood. It then followed the A40 before taking the South Circular down to Kew where it's currently following the route of the Thames into central London. Very odd!
