For those of you in the Luton/Hitchin area, be warned that the speed limit on the A505 in the Butterfield Green/Stopsley area on the outskirts of Luton has been reduced from 40mph to 30mph.

Apparently the West bound speed camera has been doing a brisk trade in the last couple of days...rolleyes

I didn't notice the changes this morning on the way to work. My wife did and mentioned the signage didn't look finished - not permanent signs. Don't they have to warn you like when they change the road layout? I've driven past that camera every day for 8 years so would feel a bit agrieved if I got a ticket because the speed limit changed without notice.

That started at 60mph when it was opened? It was 50 when I started driving!

My Mum went towards Hitchin sunday AM and didn't see any changes. Sister called Sunday PM heading same way to say had been changed. However, a friend coming towards Luton said they had been changed Friday.

Confused!

Is there a one-week grace period and aren't there signs for notification of changes?

Not that I recall seeing, well I know Sunday AM I did not see any notification signs as I did not see the 30MPH signs either, if they were in place.confused

Definately did not see a double flash though.smile

My other half works in luton and goes down this road to get to work. She called me Friday (the 25th) to say how she'd just seen a 30mph sign right before the camera and the 40 sign had been badly spray painted, almost as if it had been vandalised. Then she added how she had been going through at 40mph all week but hadnt noticed a flash. No idea when they went up before that so maybe friday was the first day??

I hope and pray that camera is not in use or that they havent been up all week prior or she can wave goodbye to her license. I went past monday on my bike and noticed signs straight away notifying of the change as soon as you get off the roundabout. There's a fair few. Hopefully its a case of putting them up to scare drivers into going 30mph. I dont see the need for the change in it myself!

Why, oh why is it 30?

Are there any pedestrians crossing it? No, the concrete walls and armco stop them.
Are there any traffic lights? No, just one roundabout.
Are there any cyclists using the road? Maybe, but they have their own lane.

In fact, no hazards at all!!

So, can anyone explain what it's all about?

I have been driving for almost 40 years and seen some daft limits in my time, but that takes the biscuit, by a long way!

Apparently it's because of the workmen for the £90 million busway. It will revert to the slightly less ridiculous 40mph afterwards. However long that may be.

I wonder if that's the same reason for the Crematorium road?

Those silly workmen, always running out into the road chasing their footballs.

Yeh, probably because of the works for the sports centre and the old people's home opposite.

Damn OAPs running out to get their footballs...
