Wow, just wow......paid a visit for some obscure reason and have never seen a more miserable dump, inhabited by the sorryest bunch of zombies and rubbish everywhere. And invalid chairs everywhere, is this place the disabled capital of the UK or something?

The only redeeming features that Stevenage has are my local Merc dealer and a couple of good model shops.

I live just north of there in Letchworth and these are the only reasons I have to go anywhere near that hellhole

As a Harlow resident who has a business in Stevenage I am sorry to say I agree with you, Harlow isn't as bad as that but it's not Epping or Theydon Bois. I don't know what it is with Stevenage? It just seems so grey. But then again I grew up in Hackney so Basra would be a step up.

Our head offices are in Stevenage, only been there a few times and it seems to get worse each time I do. I have to go up again in a couple of weeks...not looking forward to it

yes

You could go to Stevenage on the brightest, sunniest day in spring and it would still be depressing.

Thats how I see it. Weird because it has decent shops, ok roads, bang on the A1 and the houses are ok in places, Basildon is the same. I think Harlow seems better to me because A, its been home for 10 years and B, its smaller than Stevenage so it doesn't feel as bleak.

Funny, if pressed I'd say Harlow was worse. Milton Keynes too. It's new towns, they're souless.

MK is pants, Hemel Hempstead too. fk it though, you've got to call somewhere home I spose. Every place has its positves and negatives, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I don't know why though, there's plenty of Industry there, decent countryside yet it looks like an episode of Benidorm without the sun. It's the amount of these

that amazes me

You should try working for the Borough Council for 10 years. It is populated with London over spill, some residents are decent people but most are fkin scum IMO.

I have the pleasure of working in St Evenage Sur-La-Merde.

Its a dump and I try to avoid the town centre like the plague - its full of 15yr old chavettes pushing their prams with their gunts whilst jabbering on the phone, eating and smoking all at the same time. It also seems to have a huge population of one-eyed halfwits dragging their lame foot about.

Did you know that Vincent motorbikes were based in Stevenage until their demise in 1955.

The Great John Surtees served his apprenticeship there. He had lodgings in Letchworth as well. One of his classic bikes was MOT'd at Icknield Garage services a few weeks ago too!

btw, I'm not a fan of Stevenage either, even though I have friends and relatives who live there. Letchworth is far superior smile

Been trying to sell it for ages, replaced with Mini Cooper S. Really do need to get shot of it now.

The town centre is desperate and is awaiting a large regeneration scheme. There are also some residential areas that could benefit from a well co-ordinated air strike. Personally like car enthusiasts and even dont mind old Minis, but not sure if Id like a neighbour like this

I worked in Letchworth for a few months and it seemed equally depressing as Stevenage (albeit in a very different way.) Struck me as a mix of retirement country and council estate. Nicer houses than Stevenage though, granted.

Anyone travelled between Stevenage and Corby - but further up north? Can't make my mind up which should be nuked first.

Letchowrth is just dull as theres no night life there, in fact its so dull that even the black squirrels are leaving and coming to hitchin...

And unfortunately, Hitchin has started to go down hill in the past 5 years or so
