Guys,
How long, during your average week, does it take to drive from Huntingdon (say Stukeley Meadows) to Trumpington P&R, Cambridge in rushhour?

I've managed to mostly avoid it. However when I didn't manage to avoid it, if I left before 7.30 abot 30 mins from St Ives. But much later than that it could be nearer an hour.

A friend of mine used to do it and if he left after 7 it took 2 hours. If he left after 9 then it was merely an hour.

He ended up going through Godmanchester, Papworth and on to the 428, just to avoid the 14.

When the guided bus way finally opens you may have another alternative.

Shudder, I did that once and crawled for nearly 20 minutes up the Madingley road to get on to the M11, really frustrating as the 428 is a cracking stretch.

I'd suggest giving yourself 1 hour, but I've no idea how long it will take the bus to get in to Cambridge from the park and ride. The one good thing about having to work in Harlow (never thought I'd say that wink) is that I don't have to drive in to Cambridge in the morning!! I'm also lucky (I s'pose) in that as I'm up near Ramsey I cut across country to Bar Hill rather than crawl on the A14 in the morning. It probably takes about the same time to be honest but it's just better to be moving rather than suddenly coming to a stop for no good reason, time after time!!

Coming home in the evening I do use the A14 as it generally flows a bit better, although the Bar Hill stretch is a major bottle neck and lorries are a constant pain.

Cheers,
Rob

Cheers guys.
We're looking at buying a house in Huntingdon (as you may have guessed) and my OH works at Addenbrookes hence the question about driving time.
We live in Cambourne at the moment so she knows the 428 route well and can deal with the slow trafic that happens at times. Shes not so keen on the time it'd take on the a14 though.

Is it only the stretch between Huntingdon and Barhill thats the pain?

Thanks again

If you're thinking of Huntingdon, can you not do the A1198 down to the A428 thus avoiding the A14?

(Whenever I'm going to Huntingdon, I always use that in preference to the A14)

Have you thought about St Neots instead? Much nicer than Huntingdon IMHO plus it's straight onto the A428...

That's never going to be a good journey, to be honest. When I lived inn St Neots my mum was in Addenbrooks for an extended stay and it was horrid more times then not. At least you have more options of going through the lanes from St Neots then Huntingdon. Unless you have found your dream house or have other reasons for being in Huntingdon I would avoid it. frown
