Hi All,

my Baur has a gap where the soft back top meeting the hard top so over the years rain has leaked in and the carpets are musty and need replacing. Can someone please recommend a specialist who would be able to take a look at the gap and advise next steps and possibly fix as well, ie, close the gap or replace the whole cabrio part. also be able to replace the carpets too, they stink :-). I am based in Datchworth, Herts.

Many thanks

Do you want a historic fabricator / specialist or a more modern day bodyshop / hood and trim fitter?

As this has been going on 'over the years' I would pull the carpet and check the condition of the floor before spending money on fixing the leak E30's like a bit of Oxidation and years of wet carpet would not have help in any way.

If the floor is OK, then Fred @ AR pound in Baldock (round the back of Tesco's), or Phil @ A1 Auto Trimmer, Pixmore Avenue, Letchworth are both worth calling.

Depending on the colour of the carpet it maybe a NLA part as I do not recall the Baur having a different carpet to the 2 doors unlike the 'full' convertibles, in which case a good used one is your best bet keep an eye on ebay and e30zone.

My choice locally for new trim (leather), a new hood or carpets would be Barton & Son in Luton +44 (0)1582 412932.

I would have a word with B Trim; they are well known for work on BMW's and should be able to sort the hood out for you.

B Trim do great leather work, they did two of my seats not so long ago, but not sure if the guys are much interested in carpets and hoods!
