I have had rural properties with outbuildings for years and keep ducks so rats etc are always attracted to the feed. I would highly suggest that before paying a pest controller to do no more than put poisin down you try doing it yourself for next to nothing. Dont go to B&Q etc , go to an equine suppliers and get some packs of 'paste' , they look like tea-bags full of couloured putty. As long as you wash hands after putting them down ( preferably with gloves but im naughty) and dont leave them where a child or dog can get them youll be fine. Chuck one in each corner of the garage behind a toolbox or something. Rats and mice love them and will have a nibble and quicly die off. If you think they have returned have another go.

I worried that by poisoning them they will simply limp off and die leaving a rotten smell as they decompose!
