Following on from the book thread in The Lounge...

I have just finished Tuesday's War by David Fiddimore - Brilliant. I enjoyed that so much I was sorry when it ended. It's all about a Lancaster crew during the war and a real insight into how they all lived(and died). For anyone living in Beds and Cambs it is fascinating as it is all based in the villages and airfields within 10 miles of St Neots and the detail is spot on - I even went to visit Everton Churchyard recently because of this book and its references.

It is based on a fictitious airfield called Bawne which is obviously Bourne and refers to an load of the local pubs, other airfields and places in the area. Next time I am working on Thurleigh Airfield I shall have a good look in the Jackal as it makes specific references to this as well. Come the spring, I might even consider a little PH tour based on the book(no promises...)

I Totally recommend it.

Just read it.

Don't usually like to read fiction, but i think there was enough in this book that really happened to keep me interested & retain credibilty. Sounds like it was well researched.

Very good book, a bit fruity in places as well, but i guess people don't act normally when they think tomorrow could be thier last !!

I laughed out loud as to why the girl was called Fiver!

He has written a couple of follow up books based on Charlie, I shall get around to these at some point. Tuesday's War has been read to death by my work chums now, they all loved it.

Yeh that took me a moment, there must be some little old lady out there in Cambs somewhere that blushed when she read that.

I'm glad he put in that last bit about the events and people that were real. Especially the bit about losing a whole squadron of Lancasters in the fog, just dropping out of the air one by one as their fuel ran out !! It must have been a terrible thing to witness.
