Tewin / Bull's Green / Bramfield
Discussion
Went there last night. Nothing spectacular, but it provides a reasonable means of connecting two of the areas best roads. The only problem is the cut through I used at the end has a series of rather massive speed bumps. I suspect had I been in the Caterham I'd literally have ended up teetering on the top of them.
I grew up around there and still drive it from time to time. It's not great for driving... as others have mentioned.. lanes, narrow roads and hedgeways; I've lost a wing mirror before between Bramfield and Bulls Green. Probably better off sticking to the B1000 although the speed restrictions at Digswell make for a horrible ending to that route. Personally I quite like the A414 from Hertford to Hatfield, the local Porsche dealer in Hatfield take you for a spin to Hertford and back to show off their vehicles along there. Datchworth to Watton is a nice short stretch, although try not to take "the jump" over 70mph ;-)

....Anyone know the roads around this area?
Is there anything worth investigating in the area between the A1, the A602 and the B1000? Basically looking for a fun way from Hertford to Welwyn.
Hertford to Welwyn. Is Welwyn...Garden or Village. Is there anything worth investigating in the area between the A1, the A602 and the B1000? Basically looking for a fun way from Hertford to Welwyn.
Village to Hertford via Tewin twisty but OK better off peak.
Garden to Hertford A414 also better off peak.

Without a doubt the road from Codicote to Hitchin is the best. Sundays is full of bikers so avoid that. loads of bends, some good overtake spots and no cameras. Go enjoy.
Oh I know. The idea was just to find an entertaining way of linking that to roads like the B158 and the B1004 at Hertford. I have a loop around Herts, a bit of Beds, and a bit of Essex that contains roads you simply wouldn't believe existed this close to London, I just need something to plug the gap. The B1000 seems to be the least tedious answer - plus it has a couple of twisties and a couple of overtaking places, so it's quite respectable as a connecting road goes.princeperch said:
Watch it in Hertford Heath as it drop to 30 coming from Hertford. There is a scamera van there occassionally.
Nah, I've vowed never to bother with the Hertford Heath road again. Once was boredom enough. On a random note, I did discover a fun road the other week. Heading off the B1004, about half way between Much Hadham and Bishops Stortford 'the old airfield road'.

You do need to be careful though - poor chap killed earlier this year when he spun into one of the roadside pill-boxes...
Shame you've publicised this though, that road is very quiet and so close to home I often use it for some 'spirited progress' safe in the knowledge it will be usually free of traffic
How's the Caterham btw? Mate just round the corner just bought an '07 Roadsport (silver with red nose)and we're often out and about - wave if you see us!
Apologies for going off topic!

Chris, I assume you mean the road that heads down towards Sawbridgeworth, past where RAF Sawbridgeworth used to be? Indeed it is fun, especially in the Gallardo that's sitting on my drive right now
Gallardo?? Thought you had a 350Z? Nice upgrade - I also remember that road from years ago, not driven round there for years!Zippee said:

Still got the 350 and loving it - but I now have the bug and need more power!

I'd like to think PH was a reasonably select and discrete audience, so hope the road won't be gridlocked next time you head down! For my part I have to be fairly careful down there anyway as I can't see over the banks in most places. By the way, what's the situation with the airfield? Does it still exist? Is any of it, er, accesible?

Unfortunately the airfield is out of bounds for cars, as is the old RAF Hunsdon base, a couple of miles towards Hunsdon/Widford.
