I've got a job interview there so what's the area around Ampthil like? House prices, amenities etc, etc.

Ampthill is a good place to work ive worked here for a while now and lived nearby for years. House prices are quite high but there are still resonable, Flitwick just down the road is a good bet if your working in Ampthill. Also Ampthill is only 10 miles from Bedford and Luton where house prices are cheaper. Hope that helps. Way hey first post

Ampthill is really nice - also loads of great villages in the surrounding area. Take a look on right move to get a feel for house prices. How far away from Ampthill would you want to be? Would help narrow down some other decent villages.

Thanks for the replies! I'd be prepared for a 30min commute for me and my wife; she'd probably find work as a Clinical Tutor or Lecturer in Midwifery at a hospital or University.

That opens up loads of areas then. Milton Keynes is 25 minutes away and has a very large hospital, Bedford is 15 minutes away and again has a big hospital. Cambridge is an hour away but you could try and get smack in the middle and has Addenbrooks, also used a a teaching hospital plus theres Luton & Dunstable - though TBH I'd avoid those 2 places like the plague.
Villages around MK such as Woburn, Woburn Sands, Heath & Reach, Aspley Guise are all really nice and would all be ideally situated for both Ampthill as well as MK, Luton & Bedford hospitals.
Barton-Le-Clay, Hitchin, Old Warden, Shouthill again are very nice and would be perfect for Bedford and part way to Cambridge. Then theres Bromham, Oakley etc just North of Bedford.

Best bet would be to come this way for a weekend and spend the time driving round the different areas a nd working out where you'd want to be. All the areas above are within 15-20 miles max of Ampthill.

Dare I ask if the job has anything to do with Defence?

check out the rush-hour commuting times very carefully as any route to/from the m1 can jam-up big time

Zippee the T350 in your profile is just georgeous. A guy near where my girlfriend lives has a tuscan and the noise is biblical. Now whenever I here it being fired up I always jump up and run out the back door for a closer look. Sad I know but I bloody love it!
