Looks like about 6 of them have recently been installed on the A505 dual carriageway between Baldock and Royston, 3 on each side.
I don't think they are live yet and some don't have the road markers but, beware anyway!

One of the bu99ers is almost hidden in the trees near the Ashwell Station turning!

The one at Ashwell has been there a long time and it is/was always live. They have been doing quite a lot of work along that stretch of the 505 so I guess the cams have also been set up again. Could someone just have a blat along there and report the ones that flash please?

The new one is on the way to Baldock from Royston, the opposite side to the one just before the Ashwell turn in the Baldock->Royston direction.

Anyone know what the secondary cameras are for?

There are the standard yellow boxes, but also grey cctv style cameras, low-level, and all pointed half-way along the white distance marker lines on the road.

Ooo, not spotted them!
Not heard of anything like that in the UK either, only in Scandinavia where they hide them in the armco.

Oh these aren't hidden at all. They are exactly like the cctv traffic monitoring cameras used on motorways, usually on top of tall poles. However, these are the same sort of size pole as the Gatso boxes, and very close to them. I can only imagine they are there to spot the inevitable sudden-braking accidents. BTW, the new cameras are all in the centre of the dual carriageway, replacing the old ones which were on the left. I think once the trees grow back they'll effectively disappear.

Hi, None of them are operating at the min. (apart from the original one at the Ashwell turn)
This is my route to work and there are just way too many down this short stretch!!! Gonna be a pain when they do become live! Guess it'll test the Carbon brakes!!!!!!!!!

This stretch of road has regularly had the $$ cameras pulled out by the roots or set fire to.

Having seen the location of the secondary cameras, I am guessing that they want to catch the buggers next time shoot

Having spent a fair bit of time inspecting these second 'cameras' i reckon they might well be an extra flash, they seem to be turned 45 degrees forward as if they would flash in line with the driver but from behind and to the right.

They don't strike me as cctv cameras, of course i'll be going for a wander along the new footpath they put in to inspect them.

They've got the gatso logo on the back as well confused

Thought I would bring this up again!

Can you verify the speed limit on this section of dual carriageway for me please?

Reason I ask: I have noticed that most drivers reduce there speed to about 60 mph past these cameras. Do they know something I don't?!

It is a dual carriageway and hence national speed limit which is at the moment on dual carriageways 70mph....well that's what they told me on my Speed Awareness course when the one at the station got me....

I'm almost certain it's 70 mph too, but so many slow down to 60, it has me wondering smile

Sat nav tells me its 70 when it gets into that camera zone. I've driven past those cameras at 70 many times (conditions permitting) without my photo being taken.

Me too. The speed of the other cars has probably got more to do with a lack of knowledge of the Highway Code. smile

Or maybe people just don't trust the laws that be to have calibrated the cameras correctly and are just being overly cautious?
