Hi guys,

Very long time lurker, first time poster. Not sure where to put this, but hope it is allowed.

The lovely Miss Billington and I are getting shackled together in September, and wedding cars are about £600 for an old Roller etc. For 2 hours work and 20 miles, its far too much money when everything else is on a tight budget. Saying that, I dont want her to get out of our Ibiza!

Her uncle has been restoring an E type for the last 4 years and when we got engaged, said it would be ready and he would love to unveil it for the first time for our wedding. He called last night though and told us he has just sold it!

Long story short, does anyone here have an old prestigious / anything better than an Ibiza that might like to drive 20 miles from St Albans to Ware with us in the back? Can pay a little money, all fuel and expenses and you would be very welcome at the reception for food and drinks. Will be a Saturday in Sept, looking at 13th/20th right now.

Thanks, Carl smile

Carl, sorry but I've seen requests like this and been asked to help out before so feel I can comment

Sorry Carl but you need to be realistic it's not 2 hours work and 20 miles is it - you want the car spotless so it will need preparing and has to get there from where ever and return, it's a minimum of half a day even if it's very local

Speaking as someone who's been with the same partner for nearly 30 years and married for 22 years I recommend an absolute minimal wedding and expense (as we had and only three days in Wales honeymoon) - you can always have a big do later in your lives when you can afford it if you still feel you need that sort of thing

I'll only accept criticism from those that are still on their first marriage of more than ten years for my comment above

Sorry Nigel the 2 hours and 20 miles was a little specific to one company i called that work out of a garage at the end of our road. On the 13/09 we would have been on of four bookings that day. I dont doubt there are hours of prep work and detailing going on behind the scenes, and i realise these cars are only ever used twice a week so upkeep is going to be expensive. I was not lumping any volunteers into that group, and would never expect them to prepare the car at all. Our wedding will not be extravagant and will total £2k max, inc honeymoon which is why I want something a little special for her that will not get us into debt.

smile

Yes I was thinking of a private owner preparing his car just for you

Sorry I can't help, only once did I get this arranged and then the car broke down the week before (old cars rolleyes) but the 6' 9" groom and 6'+ bride still gave the charity donation

Carl you sound a reasonable person I'm sure you'll get something sorted

The very best of luck to you and your future bride thumbup

£2,000 ! even with 22 years inflation it still sounds too much :tightgitsmilie:

Can't help with a 4 seater for you but take a quick look at this thread for inspiration and to show the kindness of TVR owners/PHers - http://pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t...
You could possibly get a convoy to take you, your wife and bridesmaids (albeit likely in seperate cars) and arrive insomething a little different.
Certainly I can't commit now but if later in the year I knew I was going to be free then I'd quite happily be a part of it should you try and get something like this organised.

One very important thing to remember is that all TVR owners will drop everything if there were an excuse for a hoon, they also (usually) are fastidious about keeping their cars keen and all love showing off (especially to bridesmaids smile ).
