Hi,

No sooner had I put something similar on the Kent and Essex forum, did I find out I might be moving to North London shortly. Enfield to be precise. So, is anyone nearby and is there much activity?

I'm hoping to have a TVR to play with by the time I actually move over (looking for an S at the moment...) and I guess being near the TVR Centre in Barnet is likely to produce some local happenings! I'm also going to be minutes from the A10 (just inside J25 of the M25, so hopefully not too bad to get out)

The other thing is roads....

I've always lived in relatively rural areas before and I'm going to miss having a hoonable comute frown Are there any nice roads (quiet enough to enjoy) in the area? I suspect north London is going to be an element of culture shock. On the upside, I might get a bigger garage!

I lived in Brookmans park until very recently and now Hatfield - there are some good road running off the A1000 from Potters Bar to Hatfield, Kentish Lane (towards Essendon from the A1000) for instance is a good hooning road if a little bumpy.
Seems a few S.Herts/N.London people are coming out of the woodwork. We should arrange a gathering.

Jonny.

Hi Doug,

Things have been so busy recently I've only had a chance to look at one - an S1. I absolutely loved it. Predictably fun to drive, but so much more docile, user-friendly and well felt like a production car (as indeed it is). However, the guy was asking decent S3-money and despite a good chassis etc. the car needs quite a lot of cosmetic tidying, so I've yet to make my mind up on that one and want to have a look at a few more. Even found one locally to invesigate: http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/347079.htm

Having lived in atleast vaguely rural areas for the rest of my life I was a bit apprehensive about moving to North London (gf needs to be there for her job...), but then I realised that our combined income could get somewhere quite reasonable. More to the point somewhere with a garden to have the occasional pint or BBQ in after work and a garage .....a big garage and a driveway to do work on. That has rather eased my concerns about moving to the big city! smile

wavey Hi Chris! Glad to see a name I recognise from the few other areas on PH I go to moving into the area smile
Why not venture into N. Herts?
It's quick to get to on the A1M and we generally have a meet up once a month or so.
Some of the roads are good too if you're willing to spend a little longer getting there.
A few N. Londoners on this board come up too - you could have a mini convoy wink
Getting to MK meets is also doable and fun if you go on the right roads, and I'm sure we're due another meet soon!

ETA - I'd be happy to zip further down and into the dark (S Herts) for a drink and tyre kicking session wink

Hi,

Thinking I might go and take a look at the car linked above tomorrow evening (I've got the right link now in case anyone was wondering why there was a flat there before!!) I'd be very happy to see anyone who knows their TVRs down for an opinion. Particularly if you can give me a lift - I'm not sure a dealership will take me seriously in an 1100 Saxo. wink

Just got my bank statement through - looks like I'm good for S3 money if I do see something good. Feel a slight pressure to locate one before it gets warm and sunny (and expensive!) though.

Probably going up to the midlands over the weekend - there's one car I want to see in Leamington and one in Brum.

Hi Graeme,

Just took a nose at your profile and noticed you're a mountain biker. Is there anywhere worth riding around there? I got bored of Trent Park in one go and I've taken to riding through Hilly Fields near Enfield lately.

Im around the area too. As for hooning roads.. Like much of the rest of the country, many have scamera's on them now, or are riddled with pot holes.
However.... There is always the M10 biggrin It cant be more than 3 or 4 miles long but it rarely has much traffic on it. Never seen any police on it, and certainly doesn't have any camera's on it. Can certainly have a quick hoon and stretch a cars legs there. It goes from Radlett/StAlbans'ish to the M1 near Hemel, and back again of course hehe

Not tried Hilly Fields myself actually. Trent Park is a bit easy and boring. I'm with you there. Epping Forest is a pretty good place to ride and easy to get to from Enfield, but to be honest, I've not really found a route myself there yet. Normally go there on my own and don't wanna venture too far incase I get lost. The best place to go to start out as far as I'm aware is High Beech.

Yep, sorry about that - did so and then realised Herts might actually be more relevant to what is just about the most northerly point of London!

Going off topic again - Hilly Fields doesn't have any serious terrain (or even anything close to that), but it's considerably closer (for me), much, much quieter and there's enough singletrack footpaths to keep me entertainined on a 45 minute trraining ride. Did see someone with a very nice looking Specialized blasting down the one vaguely interesting trail in Trent Park the last time I was there, but even that one is over in about a minute and involves dodging walkers.

Anyway, back to cars! Off to see the next TVR tomorrow, so hopefully a step closer to having something interesting to bring along to any local meets. There was one (an S3C) advertised down the road in Edmonton, but that sold pretty quickly and I never got a chance to look.

You'd have to be unlucky though. It's not a road that really gets patrolled. Its basically just a really long sliproad to the M1 more than a motorway. Make the most of it though. Once the M1 works are finished its going to be downgraded from a motorway to become part of the A414. Watch out for a fixed camera or at the very least a mobile scam site.

In the meantime, shhhhhhhh - not that many people know about it and at 2 in the morning drivingevil

Nope - on my third S-Series viewing currently (and looked at a wedge a while back too), finding a good one seems to be pretty tough. The fist car I saw (an S1) was fairly good, but I found the extra performance of the later cars really noticeable so I'm really trying to track down an S3. Might be tempted by a V8S or Chim if the decent sixes continue to prove ellusive! Please give me a shout if you know of any appearing.

Keep meaning to get down to one of the South Mimms meets, but the past couple of weekends that I've been free it's been that or going to look at a potential purchase.

I'll check out Chicksands! Found a few other local(ish) rides on this page - http://www.leisurewheels.co.uk/sitepage.php?id=6 - must check out Epping Forest too.

Why not meet up one Sunday at S. Mimms services.

Large car park + coffee on tap?

Central for everyone.
