Any residents of Chesham or Amersham frequent the forum? Anyone work there perhaps? Looking to try and get an insiders view on the area, whats it like, traffic, locals, all the usual moving to an area info. Can anyone shed any light?

If not, PM me. My parents live in Hyde Heath, between Amersham and Chesham, I know the surrounding areas quite well.

I work in Old Amersham,

It's quite nice, full of ladies who lunch during the day because of the over priced boutiques. Some nice pubs for grub, Traffic is a little tight up the hill to Amersham during rush hour and over to Chesham Bois too, but thats manly due to the one road in one road out scenario, it does keep moving.

If you'd like to know anything specific let me know, as i understand it Chesham is cheaper to purchase property in than Amersham with Old Amersham even more expensive.

I do recommend The Eagle on Market Place for pub grub. They're Lamb and mint pie was licklick this lunchtime.

Born and bred pretty much in Amersham, welcome to mail us or ask here.

Chesham is pretty much on its way down now, but Amersham is still nice.

Kin expensive housing market tho, due to be being at the end of the met line.

What sort of info you looking for ?

Hi
I have lived in chesham 11 years.
It's for you,if you :-

Like drinking, eating fast food having your haircut every week ,need new glasses every month ,blow all your money in the bookies ,you can always head on down to one of the many Charity shops to buy your second hand clothes .Chesham has a huge Sadbury's carpark with a very small Supermarket.Over inflated Council Tax compaired to Amersham (Chesham is a Bigger Town ).Sorry to say this but you will pay a premium to live in Amersham because everyone want's there son to go to one the best Boys Grammer Schools in Bucks.
Sadly you do not want to be near any of these towns when the M25 or the A40 have problems
its like a carpark in the rush hour.
Having said all this its like a lot of villages around the commuter belt i'm afraid, but
please don't let me put you off hehe

Oh i forgot to mention Amersham has a Aston Martin Dealership (God knows why) and where
i live there is another Aston Martin Specialist so its not all bad !!

I know the area very well, if you can afford it choose one of the surrounding villages, Hyde Heath, Missenden, Bovingdon, Chalfonts ect. As it has been said Chesham is not the best choice locally, also suffers more crime per head. If you insist on Chesham keep to the outskirts, easier for traffic. Saying all this it is still far more desirable than chav towns like Hemel Hempstead, so you are unlikely to regret it unless you are a real snob. If you do move locally a garage called Car Care on the road to Bovingdon from Ley Hill has some interesting cars and also prepare cars for Aston M.

Doug - to your question on traffic, I went through there last night to avoid the M25 which was knackered. From High Wycombe to St Albans via Amersham/Chesham/Hemel - the traffic was shocking! Virtually solid between Amersham & Chesham - took me the best part of 2 hours to do the journey!

Couldn't tell what Chesham was like as a place, the windows were too steamed up at that point to see it! mad

Deevee - I know what you mean. I'm a St Albans resident at the moment and had only used the Chesham route home from work when the M25 is blocked.

Since posting I've used the route when the M25 isn't in meltdown and its still quite a way from my office - mainly because its stop-start surface roads rather than the motorway. As such I'm beginning to think that Chesham might be a bit too far from where I need to be. Thanks for all the input though everyone - much appreciated.

Doug - I'd stick where you are. St Albans is nicer that Chesham AND Amersham put together!
