Two recommendations from me to start with...
Milton's Indian restaraunt in Chalfont St Giles. Also does some Thai but the Indian is superb, eat in or takeaway.
The Royal China, Chinese restaraunt in Henley On Thames - Best chinese i've ever had! Been going there for over four years and not had a bad one yet!!

Well worth the random country lanes to find it. Book a table, it gets busy for good reason. Watch the carpark entrance if you have a low car!

We’ve been getting a few “ticks” in Bucks. recently here’s the best ones we found (in alphabetical location order in the 2007 CAMRA Good Beer Guide and the food‘s usually good too)
Cadmore End, Old Ship, Marlow Rd, (on B482), HP14 3PN
“This small country pub is one of the classic gems of the Chilterns.” Spot on, and with gravity beer and good quality straightforward meals, one not to be missed (we've eat there)
Clifton Reynes, Robin Hood, MK46 5DR
“An all year round gem”, right again, it was being redecorated when we visited (non-smoking dividend), high quality food in this small traditional pub, (we've not eat there) link below

Little Missenden, CROWN, (off A 413 Amersham end of village) HP7 0RD
A personal favourite – “Timeless village pub run by the same family for over 90 years” that doesn’t mean the landlord’s an old cogger – ask about gravity beer out of sight and for the house specials of pub grub (we've eat there twice)
Maids Morton, Wheatsheaf, Main St, (off A413) MK18 1QR
Another personal favourite, picture postcard pub with an unspoilt interior, beer was very good and the menu looked very promising,(we've not eat there) the link below doesn’t do it justice

Newport Pagnell, Cannon, 50 High St, MK16 8AQ
I don’t usually like town pubs but this is different how a high street pub used to be and how some should have remained, good beer (Banks’s £1.95 a pint), good interior, a car park (via Creed St) and plenty of outdoor drinking area to the rear (sorry no food)
Stony Stratford, Fox and Hounds, 87 High St, (off A5) MK11 1AT
“this pub has been transformed and now has a more modern fell to it” that’s a little understated, modern but it works, beer was good, has a small dining room tucked away (I’ve no idea about the food), local music scene in the lounge, again car parking via a terraced street at the back and a large open drinking aera
Beds., only one I can think of is for beer only – Wellington Arms, 40-42 Wellington St, Bedford, MK40 2JX ( just off north of town centre) hard to believe it’s not a free house (actually Banks & Taylor tied) with a vast range of ales, cider, perry, imported beers (and wines) a drinkers paradise, link

I second the wheatsheaf in Maids Moreton. I used to live about 400 yards from the pub and it is very nice.
For thai food try the orchid lounge, above the jaipur restaurant in Milton Keynes. (opposite argos) Recently voted the best thai outside london. (3 course meal for 4 of us including drinks cost 120 pounds)
The jaipur is also good. Neither are cheap and cheerful but both are very good food

The last few times have been somewhat disappionting in terms of food and the service has been really poor in comparison to, say, two years ago. A nice place and hidden too!

Visited a few months back and can honestly say I had the best meal I can remember in my life. The starter, main and desserts were all at least an 8.5/9 out of 10. An intimate place for a special occasion.
They also serve Sharps Atlantic IPA
Would also recommend here http://www.ilmaschio.com/ for some really nice Italian fare. It's part owned by Mr Mark Webber too which makes it a bit more interesting for the car geeks in us
In Beds - The Black Horse in Ireland (just outside of Clophill), absolutely fantastic food.
Moretaine Manor in Marston Moretain.
Cornfields in Colmworth (village just outside of Bedford) pricey but stunning food.
St Helenas in Elstow Bedford - very pricey and ostentatious but stunning food.

Yes, agree with that 
although don't you mean just outside Shefford? A couple of miles further, is The White Horse in Southhill. Food just as good, but cheaper Gets very, very busy in the summer!HeavySoul said:

as a regular drinker at the Alford Arms i tend to agree(every week new staff!),i gave up eating there regularly as, to get a Friday or Saturday you would need to book 3 months ahead.I like to do things on the spur of the moment and always find at least one of the restaurants in Hemel old town can fit me in with little notice.

The Greyhound in Aldbury always does really nice homecooked food, love it for summer lunches.
Fave curry house is prob Shaad in Aston Clinton.
For a pukka home cooked dinner then the Polecat in Prestwood is perfect, huge portions, but you can only book for tables of 7 or more.Get in early is the best bet.

But Neil - that place costs a fortune, or it did when i last looked at the menu when i was considering where to take a lucky lady for Valentines. something like £50 just for one main course !!!!!http://www.kingsheadivinghoe.co.uk/
Needless to say, we ended up going to The Boot in Soulbury, which, while i am on the subject, is not a bad place for food - more restaurant than pub grub, and the fixed menu is quite limited, but the food and service is,. on the whole, good. They have just started doing Pizzas, and if you get the chef on a good night, they are to die for!
