This morning I was on the bike and used this road for the first time in a few years. Out of Aylesbury, past the GLF NSL sign, under the bridge into a long fairly open right hander. Looked a decent road surface but half way round yikes I thought my suspension had developed a fault. Very bouncy and disconcerting. I'm not sure it could actually cause you to lose control, but it could certainly tempt you to lift off at an inopportune moment.

Most of the roads round here are in appaliing condition. HS2 has churned most of bucks into Mordor.

We're just about at the intersection of HS2 and EWR. It's like the Third fking World courtesy of the tippers...

I went to Aylesbury yesterday via the M25/A41 and thought the road was in terrible state and the amount of rubbish on hard shoulder/verge was shocking, I thought the Baldock Bypass was bad but it's nothing like the A41.

The whole of the A41 from Aylesbury to Bicester in either direction is just in appalling condition - potholes get filled on the basis of chucking a bit of tarmac in and hoping. HS2 / EWR would think are largely to blame so only another 15 years ?!

I live in Aylesbury and I got so cross with Rob Butler regarding the state of the roads (after any kind of interaction with the Council resulted in huge frustrations) that I'm not allowed to go to his surgery any more.

There's nothing we can do - believe me - I've tried.

Same here. I blew a tyre out because a Ferrari California (I st you not) cornering rather enthusiastically forced me off the side of the precipice which passes for the edge of one of our country roads after EWR had been using it for a Haul Road for 18 months.

But it's OK because they patch it. A bit. And they have to put it right when they finish - maybe, because the road has failed, fully failed, and I trust them about as far as I can throw them. Until then, good luck.

(I did get another tyre BTW - because I was so fking annoying and wouldn't stop until I got one, but it took a good while, and I was passed to and fro like a tennis ball at Wimbledon)

It's absolute madness.

I travel from Aylesbury to Bletchley every day, and the road through Bierton has nigh on completely failed, and is dire through Wing (especially heading back towards Aylesbury). Bletchley itself is dreadful as well. The dual carriageway from Leighton Buzzard up to Bletchley is quite nice though.

I had lower arms done a few months back, then ball joints in January, and now I've just had to have drop links. Crazy.

I mean, does no one from TFB acutely drive on these roads? How are they not hugely embarrassed?

The roads around here are awful... far worse than normal, probably HS2 related

My wife is Czech and when I'm driving on their roads, especially up in the mountains, that are subject to extreme weathers, they are nothing short of immaculate - you could go bowling on them, I must take my cars out there one day, if they survive the UK roads in the meantime

And to think looking at his website he was passionate about hating everything about HS2.
I guess Bucks CC will only patch the road at best.
Driving at night and if wet is a real lottery about reaching your journey without an issue.

It's actively dangerous on an NSL/50mph, I agree.

Perhaps as with those that plan where to put pedestrian crossings and the like they are non drivers ?
I wonder how much our Council tax bills are going up and how much “ more “ has been allocated for road repairs ?

I have heard (rumours not confirmed) that most of the budget is allocated for new road build, like the new Stoke Mandeville flyover, which will then be a link road taking traffic around to the Fairford Leys roundabout running parallel to the HS2 line. I hope so, then the traffic will diminish past my house. The land in between the link road and the HS2 line will be filled with houses, thousands of them!

As above the dip on the west side of the town on the A41 has been getting worse for some time now. It used to be a “no need to lift”, now its “best slow down a bit”.

They threw a few blobs of tarmac into a couple of craters on the A41 outside the prison the other day, but it's pretty much impossible to steer in a straight line through that stretch of road. That's in a car - you really do take your life in your hands on a bike.

I’m the other side of Aylesbury but the roads round here are absolutely shocking at the moment. Glad it’s not just me thinking that.

As above, Wing and nearby villages terrible too. Not just potholes but the failed road surfaces too, which I’d never seen before until moving this side of Herts.

If anyone can put together a fun route that involves smooth roads I’m all ears!

edit: also had to have ball joints and arms done on my sensible car recently

Aylesbury itself cannot cope with existing house occupant numbers and car journey infrastructure and logistics so so god knows what house building on this scale will do.
Obviously glad it takes traffic away from you and living in a village as I do I guess it also helps protect that from additional planning requests !

For " more fun " routes I tend to head out of Bicester and then either go towards Banbury and out or cut across to the Cotswolds using Burford as the so called gateway etc.
Not saying smooth roads though.
The road to Buckingham via Winslow from Aylesbury can be ok but very time and traffic dependent.

Current population of the town is 58-60,000.
Predicted developments take this to 100-103,000 by 2035, which is a monumental increase- just in time for locals to get to use HS2 - oh wait....
Like you say, how is everyone going to get from A to B? take cars out of the equation and the town becomes stationary.

Maybe with all the readers above, we could do with a coffee and cake event – even if it’s just to moan about potholes…. Just a thought
