Bit of a random question, but where on earth do you find proper free range chickens and eggs to buy near Stony Stratford/Towcester?

Let me rephrase that slightly, as I never know what comes first, chicken or eggs - but where on earth do you find proper free range eggs and chickens to buy near Stony Stratford/Towcester

I have recently moved to the MK area and the supermarkets free range offering is poor to say the least.

I think eggs called "Happy eggs" you get in Sainsbury's are free range, give them a try.

I usually have a chuckle when I see those, thinking from the egg standpoint, someone is going to fry me, my mum is dead on the Sunday table, and they call me Happy. Just my sense of humour.

Tried those, they are not really in the same league as the ones you see for sale at the side of the road where the chickens have been allowed to roam. Another thing you notice is that with proper fresh eggs, the white doesn't flow across the pan. Fresh eggs keep a much more compact appearance.

We used to live in an area where there were lots of farm shops selling their own super fresh eggs and chickens. Amazingly different taste and texture. Supermarket stuff is insipid, even the organic stuff from Waitrose.

Errrr, I thought free range eggs aren't exactly free range at the moment. DEFRA Avian flu edict ordered birds indoors. There's been a bit of a debate that if they aren't allowed out by the end of February UK (and most of EU) flicks will lose free range status.
