Moris (https://secure.moris.co.uk/Welcome-to-MORIS-Your-one-stop-shop-for-competitive-online-motorsport-insurance) are meant to be good. Or you can always try Pace Ward (http://www.paceward.com/ - they're who I use ...)

When is your trackday or do you get to choose a date within the next 12 months?

Haven't actually driven Bedford but have been a passenger there and it's a decent track with lots of run-off areas. If you have the option of EVO magazine trackdays with your voucher they're good fun with some lovely cars (including the magazine's cars) and the people who attend are mature and sensible trackdayers. Plus the journos are there and it's always interesting to talk to them about cars and get rides in the cars you read about in the magazine smile

did a trackday there quite a few years ago. Agree its probably one of the safer tracks around but its up to you if you want to get insurance. Wouldnt mind going back actually even as a passenger and get some pics some time!

Agree per above posts. Bedford has pretty large runoff areas and as racetracks go is very safe. Not driven there on a trackday per se but have done a few palmersport days. Would suggest getting one of the days where Bedford West is included as part of the trackday so either a full GT day or SW day.

Can't help on the insurance unfortunately as I personally have found with the cost plus excess, it didn't really make sense.

Very nice prezzie. I understand where your coming from with track day insurance and I'd look into it if I chose to do a track day in my own car. It would all depend on the cost for me and how my right foot was behaving smile Let us know what day you have decided on as I'd be interested in popping along.

The thing about trackday insurance is that it's first party only. So even if you're sensible you can still get unstuck by another idiot even if they have insurance. Personally, I'd always take it out (for my car, a premium of around £70-£100 is obtainable with an excess of 5-10% - not sure if you can increase / reduce excess to amend the premium though; may well have a higher premium for your car though). Whether it is ultimately worth it may depend on the type and standard of the other drivers but you won't know that until you're there of course.

mate, looked into this big time myself...... check my forum profile and threads will be there....

cost of one day track insurance will run into several hundred pounds (700+ for my car valued at 80k) with a compulsary 10% excess...... so really costs are prohibitive......

most go out without, and drive within their limits..... but then it depends who else is out there..... not sure if there are any exclusive days your voucher will get you in..... i certainly wouldnt want to be out on track with all and sundry.... chap in souped up corsa won;t think twice about racing you and doing something stupid will he, he has nothing to loose really....

best option is around your insurance renewal, get quotes for a policy that also covers a limited number of track days, such as locktons i think, DBlue has such cover.....

Wow! That's a huge difference to what I get quoted. I can see why that would be prohibitive when the insurance costs three times as much as the trackday itself.

Mine is a bolt-on (ad hoc) through my insurance company (all mods & output declared) though so whether this helps I don't know. Maybe see if your insurance company will offer something considering you already pay them £££s each year.

I am currently insured through my business broker, I already told them the cars value is under £50k to get it cheaper, it was an extra £500 if I gave them proper value! Mrs just insured her new car £1300 for a range rover and mandatory tracker had to be fitted.
I am wondering if it would be better if I speak with Bedford and see how many cars we would need to make the day exclusive, need to know if anyone else would be interested?

Dates not set in stone, I have a choice of dates, cost of the day is quite reasonable at £139.

Perhaps I'll save on the insurance and take my Touran instead laugh
Just itching to get in the car again!!!!

I've done the Bedford GT ( thats the 4.1 mile long version , they do run a shorter version sometimes ) track a few times and always enjoyed it , there's plenty of run off and a nice mix of fast and slow corners and a long straight which also helps let faster cars get past . The only thing it really lacks is any undulations to make it more interesting and a decent paddock .
I've done about 20 trackdays and never insure my car and have never seen any car on car damage but have seen quite a few people lob their cars off the road so IMHO as long as you drive within yourself I'd not bother with insurance .

worth a try, but unlikely, as i think palmersport own bedford and msv is linked, msv run the trackdays....
rockingham circuit can be had for 6k for the day, so for 30 cars, 200 a piece..... and that includes instructors and full use of skid pans etc and paddock..... this was my first event thought...
even made enquiries re millbrook, but much slower there.....
wink

Mohan, 30 cars shouldn't be too hard to get together, I would put my name down for that one, not fussed on venue as I've never done a track before I need to be guided. perhaps a new thread to see if anyone is interested and get some tentative numbers, you can put me down as number 1!!

Lets hope you dont spank it in the mean time (until the equivalent value of yours drops below 50k if its not already) otherwise therell be more tears than necessary.

Normally your looking at 10% the cars value for a one off day, but like said, your prob best off looking for cover that inc. trackdays in the policy come renewal time. Mine has 5 days inc and was cheaper than a non-inc. track policy.

at some point we're going to have to go on track, it seems like the next logical step. if you can convince Palmer to let me have their Formula Jag i may even be able to overtake a few of you smile LOL

did see the top gear episode the otherday where they go rally crossing for less than the cost of a years worth of golf..............

Agreed, however it seems you go over the £50k mark and insurance premiums rocket, I do less than 3000 miles a year in the Porsche and I took a gamble, my car is actually worth minimally over £50k, tops £55k so worth the risk imo?

I would however be more than prepared to pay £200ish for trackday insurance as long as I knew that I was covered.

Other option is to buy an older 996 and just use it for track days......hhhmmmm I could really get into this smile

i have done several track days there at bedford. a great circuit. they police it very well and take it seriously for noise and for track behaviour but even then you can get the odd idiot as i witnessed last time overtaking coming out of a bend. the guy in front went for the race line peeling out and got clipped by the guy behind. not his fault, was the idiot behind. severe damage and not driveable home.
strict rule is you dont race. you drive fast. overtake only when the guy in front knows you are there and signals for you to. sometimes people dont listen to the briefing and it could cost you. there is no claiming on anyone else's insurance there. most arent even plated. ours isnt.

some guy was wizzing round in his Mclaren that day. brave man. i wouldnt. couple of R8's as well.

Personally i'm liking the idea of gettin enough of us together to split the cost of having a track for a day, it would be such a laff for all involved and if it's exclusive your not gonna be so worried about who's in your mirrors as we'll all know each other anyway!

totally agree Ben, Mohan has had contact with some of the tracks already and knows more about our ability to book a track, I think it will have to be put out to the members of Clophill crew to see who would be willing to pay £200 for a days tracking! only problem I can see is that there usually isn't a tunnel on a track biggrin

Few things on this one lads. Done Bedford a couple of times and I would say its a perfect venue for those with no/little experience using their own expensive car.
lots of grassy run offs, good facilities and well organised.
In contrast to the earlier opinion their policing of noise levels is the worst aspect of the track. they are amongst the worst in the country for noise and a stock GT3 for example is marginal as would a Scuderia for example be or maybe a Gallardo.

Its also very local.

I would definitely be interested in a track event for the group. Rockingham I have never done but that would be just as good a venue IMO.

Re track day cover. As mentioned by Kingston my policy which is with competition car Insurance includes 5 track days as part of the basic premium and is as cheap as any others. I have looked at pace Ward and other HNW specialist brokers and never found a deal that is better than that and they don't include any track days.

Single day cover is typically 10% of the value of the car with excess of thousands rather than hundreds.Very expensive and tbh difficult to justify. Track Days are generally, at places like Bedford , very safe and incident free. Your call but going without is not completely stupid.
