Can anyone recommend or suggest somewhere I can try on and buy a motorsport helmet, other than GPR at Silverstone, in the Bucks/MK sort of area?

I posted up a not to dissimilar thread on a different forum recently and while I'm still waiting for a good suggestion locally, someone did mention popping up to the Autosport International event at the Birmingham NEC from 10-13 January as there will be loads of helmet stockists / manufacturers up there and you can try them on before you buy. It's not that far from MK ...

I know some friends went to on yer bike which is on the A41 between aylesbury and Bicester. Motorbike place, not sure what spec helmets they sell as they were buying for just doing track days.

May be worth a quick call to them to find out. Or look on their site: http://www.onyerbike.net/clothing/?file=clothing.h...

Hi,

Thanks for the replies, both good suggestions. On Yer Bike is very close to me and is an option I had already considered. My use will be very very occassional for the odd perfromance trial I do in my road car, but despite wanting a budget helmet, I think it makes sense to get a Snell SA2010 approved helmet as it will do me for anything I will ever need it for. I visitied GPR @ Silvertsone, but their budget helmet was not a good fit for me as I was between sizes and the next step up (a Bell) fitted great but to be honest was more than I wanted to spend. The difference in fitting has put me off buying online.

The Autosport International show is a good call. I was 50/50 about going, but I think it will be worth it as there are a few helmet brands with trade stands and it should be a good day out too.

cheers
Graham

As it’s for motor sport, make sure it’s suitable for getting an MSA blue helmet sticker.

There's a bike place in Fenny Stratford (south Bletchley) that was really honest and helpful when I thought about buying one...actually persuaded me not to buy one!

Thanks again for the suggestion.

I went to Autosport today as a trader's guest and went from not having enough choice to having all the traders I could wish for all within close proximity. I tried on a good few helmets I came away with one today and at a good price too.

Glad I could help mate. Unfortunately I'm not getting up there myself though so I won't get the choices frown
