Or over-priced tat?

They have some good looking watches at present - but what's inside?

The original, designed by Mr F Porsche, Orfina PD PVD chrono with the Lemania 5100 movement is lovely, Neil has one - http://www.chronomaster.co.uk/porsche_design.htm

Right up my alley for some reason...

Current ones made by Eterna I think (IWC made them also) which model are you looking at as some are quartz and some automatic, they don't seem over reasonably priced, 5k is a lot and I suspect the name / brand accounts for a lot of it - not too up on the newer ones though, so stand to be corrected.

It's one of the Dashboard ones that's caught my eye (last page of the current issue of Christophorus if anyone's in the Porsche world) which would mean it's quartz, but I've not got a price on it yet.

Yup, I love those too. One of the reasons why I bought my Sin 144 was the similar looks.

Be careful, the PVD coating comes off easily on the titanium models... making the watch worthless and unrepairable frown

This is what happened to mine...

Here's mine

Porsche Design model PO11, automatic, stainless steel. Bought in 2001 and been no problem at all. Wearing it right now. Shares my wrist with an Omega Seamaster JB original. I bought the Porsche mainly because of the really clear design, and also the flat, unbevelled, glass.

I think Porsche Design have bought Eterna.

The movements are primarily ETA, e.g. the chronos are usually 7750 based.

They do make some interesting stuff though, e.g. the P6900 Indicator range:

Price is a little, err, rich mind ...

Just lovely - I had the less desirable Valjoux movement version - still a cracking watch.

I had one of those - No such problems with the PVD, but PVD can be re-done.

Not a fan of the current models though. They just don't grab me.

I love the look of this but can't quite seem to justify spending the best part of £8K on one

No reason to pay that amount of money for a 7750 movement in whatever case when the original PD chrono from the 70s or 80s (with either movement, Lemania or 7750) is available for 2 - 3k, surely.
And to have a few scars only enhances a watch, IMO.
