Hi Guys,

I haven't purchased a proper watch before so please forgive my ignorance!

I recently fell in love with the Rado Ceramica Chronograph when I was out shopping the other day. I was wondering if they have a good reputation for longevity and accuracy? It was priced at £1500 so thats pretty much top whack for a quartz movement I believe?

Here is a link to the watch:
http://www.rado.com/en/Watches/Ceramica/Pages/Cera...

Is this the sort of thing that will increase in value or plummet? Im not looking for an investment I am just curious.

£1500 can buy you a much better watch than a RADO TBH

Yes, guilty as charged since the GF wanted a Rado, but frankly it is a triumph of advertising over substance. I reckon the moment you leave the shop you'll have lost about a grand - seriously. For that kind of money, especially with all these bankers jumping off cliffs etc., you can probably pick a Rolex up off the pavement for free in the City or get a damned good deal on a really good watch almost new and have something that will retain its value. Is it any wonder there are 2,055 Rolex watches for sale on Ebay at the moment and no less than 38 Daytonas (count 'em), supposedly the most unobtainable watch on the planet? Look at an Omega Seamaster and £1,500 buys you a lot of watch. Yes the choice is a personal one but if you do buy do so knowing that should the love affair not last the divorce won't cost you a fortune.

There are very few watches that are a good investment if purchased from new, and I suspect the Rado isn't one of them.

If it floats your boat, buy it, but you may not find a huge target market if you ever try and sell it at a later stage...

In my experiance (yes, i'm asian) Rado was "the" watch to within the asian community wear a few years back.

Now this kind of annoys me. I agree Naked Man could have worded this a bit more delicately, but it's not fair to assume that anyone who makes a reference to ethnicity (think I'm using an appropriate word here) is racist. That's just PC gone to far. Is it a slur on Asians to point out they wear RADO watches?

I concur... as did someone else in this thread that RADO watches are/were(?) popular amongst the asian population.

So wind your neck in Shuvi.

Love the look of the multifunction but couldn't justify one as was only water resistant to 30m, which I am lead to believe only equates to washing hands. As I wear my watch all the time I need a decent waterproof watch.

I go to Casinos a lot. I'm allowed an opinion too.

I think the poster of the quote should be responsible for it. Not some apologist.

I fail to see how that is of any relevance to my post.

I am not Asian and I don't go to casino's! Although I have been known to play a spot of poker on-line.

Thank you for the helpful replies though. I might just keep an eye on the second hand market if the Rado's drop in value like believed smile

That Rado won't look as nice on your wrist as it does on the website, will lose money like a demutualised building society, and will date extremely fast.

What about this Baume & Mercier for a square chronograph?

I've had a Rado for 5 years and I'm not even Asian! What you get is an object that you wear on your wrist, and it tells the time. It is also made from materials which mean it doesn't scratch or degrade, so mine looks as fresh today as it did when new. It isn't an investment or a statement of intent - it's a watch. Plus, not everyone wants the multi-dial chronograph look.

If you like the watch, go and buy it, and make yourself feel good. Alternatively, do what everyone else tells you, and be part of the crowd. biggrin

I too have had a multi function one, can turn the digital bit off etc..for around 10 yrs..looks as good today as then.
as previously stated it tells the time, i like the look it has and it is not that common to see.

its not flash and in your face and it has a rare factor, regardless of the opinions of others on here it is a good watch.

i have 17 watches, ranging from a patek, to a swatch. I have 2 rado and often wear them. they make a great dress watch with a dark suit also smile

it boils down to if you like it buy it, your the one wearing it. if your buying it to please others maybe you should get a life.
