I'm looking for a watch... but there's just too many to look at - i'm finding it thoroughly confusing. Spending too long on various websites each night....

Budget - up to £2.5k.

Need to avoid a big watch as I have skinny wrists and don't want to end up with a watch the size of my hand.
Will mostly be worn in an office / with a suit and on my wedding day.

I did try to buy a pre-owned Sinn 244 but missed out. (Thanks Pesty for the pointer to TZ).

At age 35, my only "proper" watch has been a Tag F1 watch which I bought in '91 and it's been in the box for the last 10 yrs... shortly I'll bring it out and get it serviced for casual wear.

Sinn, Rolex, Omega, Stowa etc.. - don't mind as long as it's a small-ish watch and would be suitable for the occasion. Would consider pre-owned. Would prefer a s/s bracelet.

Can anyone recommend a suitable watch and place to buy?? (if not the high street).

do you want a dress watch, sporty watch, something mainstream Omega/Rolex or something more unusual?

What size is too big 38mm 40mm 42mm 44mm

I guess an obvious choice would be a 16610 Sub as it's not too big at 39mm, is smart enough to be worn on special occasions and looks good with a suit while still being an excellent, rugged everyday watch. Plus, they hold their value pretty well and I think they look good. Sticking with Rolex if you want something generally smarter and more discreet, how about a Datejust or Air King? Rolex Explorer II is very nice too and a more individual choice than a Sub perhaps.
Watches.co.uk is a great place to look as they have a great selection and here are a few I found that you might like the look of:
http://www.watches.co.uk/watch.php?wid=0510P GP F1 Chrono
http://www.watches.co.uk/watch.php?wid=7106S IWC Mark XV
http://www.watches.co.uk/watch.php?wid=6854S Omega Speedy Schumacher
http://www.watches.co.uk/watch.php?wid=5669S Tag Autavia
Then there are the numerous Seamasters, other Speedmasters and Tag Carreras which are all good choices. Sinn are great too and Anonimo is definitely worth a look as well. Heck you might not like any of the above but at least you can see what's out there. Hope this helps!

As said above you need to decide what type of watch your looking for. If you do want to spend the whole lot on a single watch a pre-owned Rolex Sea Dweller, or Sub would seem to be worth a look.

http://secondtimeround.com/ specialise in pre-owned Rolex & sold me my SD at a very sensible price.

Thanks for all the assistance - from everyone.

Size of watch - probably 40mm? Smart watch, suitable with a suit but not OTT. Air King, Date / DateJust, Sub & SD all seem very suitable watches just looking at the links provided.

Only looking for one watch and I don't need to spend all my budget.

Many thanks...

Well, based on the ifo provided it would either be a Sinn 356 as described here:-

http://www.chronomaster.co.uk/BSR_Sinn_356_II_d.JP...

or else I'd go for the IWC Spitfire and spend the budget. The Sinn will look good and you'll get to keep a load of your money in your pocket. If a chrono is not your thing then look at the 756:-

I've got a Spitfire but if Sinn had what I wanted at the time I'd surely have bought there and saved a load of money.

Personally I would go second hand and let someone else take the hit on the loss of value

Omega Constellation range
Rolex has already been mentioned

Second hand
Glashutte maybe lucky
Blancpain
Jaeger Le Coultre - clasic stuff - Maste compressor range
Girard Perregaux F1 Oracle, Seahawk, (maybe too big) - there is an achingly beautiful GP chrono for sale on timezone.com by one of the GP Forum moderators (Joel) do a search (i'd link it cut can't get on at work)
IWC ingenieur
should all be kicking around your maximum range.

Thanks for all the help - very much appreciated.

I do like the Sinn 356 (as above) plus the Submariner 16610 - also recommended. I noticed from other threads that a chap on P/H can also help with the supply of very reasonably priced Omega Seamasters? (presumably mid size would be suitable for me). I think I'll spend abit of time researching best prices for new Submariners (on the basis that there doesn't appear to be a massive price difference between new & 1-2 yrs old) and take it from there. It doesn't have to be an expensive watch for me, just something I like!

Many thanks for all the help/advice on here. yes

Would maybe think about it if it's £2.5k or less.... though I think it's advertised at £3.5k on p/h.

Umm.... what's this worth as a pre-owned watch?

Presuming the size is the same as a regular 16610..

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

Looks nice... even with a green bezel.

OK, OK, to be honest, I was thinking perhaps nudging the £3k mark for my own one. Mid-size (35mm), genuine, boxed, papers and I'd also throw in a set of Omega Speedmaster 50th Anniversary mission patches and enamelled badges too........ Lists at £4680.
