I have 6-700 to spend on something nice. A friend suggested a Tag but on reflection the image is a little bit chav, or am I wrong?

I know very little about watches and after some t'internet digging I would like the experts views on the following brands and/or other suggestions.
Hamilton
Stowa
Sinn

Thanks
Dan

Sinn are loved on these forums, for good reason. Beautful, clean designs.

Are you adverse to having second hand watches? If not, then the choice just got massive.

Stowa's also highly thought of - great workmanship for the price and nice, clean designs.

The Marine Original is a beautiful dress watch, if that's what you're looking for - just came out with Roman numerals which I think look gorgeous.

Don't know enough (anything!) to be of any help on the Hamiltons, I'm afraid.

Is he going to be wearing it daily?

If so probably a sea master can be found for that price..

Concur with both the Sinn and the Seamaster point of view. Another to think of, if you could increase the budget a little is a Speedmaster. They are starting to increase in value as the anniversary of the moon landing approaching, and they hold their value well anyway.

Only thing about the speedy would be the hand winding (it stopped me from buying one) and the reduced version is just too small for me (though it is an auto).

For that kind of money you'll get a used Sinn U1 and they don't show signs of wear at all (well mine hasn't). Other than that I'd look www.chronomaster.co.uk and take a look at the selection of Sinn watches

If I was spending £700ish about now on a watch it would be one of those copper faced Sinn 356s that cyberface has.
But then I'm a Seamaster wearing chav with no taste so best ignored.

I'm also a chav, albeit the Tag Heuer Carrera kind, but agree with my Burberry'd friend above - that Sinn looks tremendous.
I like this one also - looks worth every penny of the £645 asking price:

In fact, it pains me to think of the gold chains we could have bought out of the change wink

I can certainly recommend both Sinn (I have an 856) and the Stowa Marine Original.

Here they are together:

(That striking blue strap didn't last very long - it was just too startling ...)

As previous posters have pointed out the Stowa is more of a dress watch, and is of course handwound if that is an issue. The Sinn is extremely tough and just does not appear to get marked - its my first choice beater. It is also amazingly accurate, when its going: mine is currently back with Sinn for repair.
