I have an invite (and a spare for someone who wants to join me) to a charity auction of GP watches in the private dining rooms at the top of the gherkin in the city tomorrow starting 6pm. Apparently GP up to 50% off presumably as a starting bid....I'm going for a look and maybe more perhaps....

If nothing else the venue is pretty spectacular and a few hours doing the horological eqivalent of kicking tyres in the top dome of the Gherkin appeals to me.

Anyone interested in joining me?

I would have went to this frown

I work pretty much next to the Gherkin.

Was it any good?

Huuum it wasn't an auction as such but rather a massive discount sale direct from the manufacturer, or should I say 'manufacture'.

They had all the people from the UK office and one of their watchmakers, so much brain picking was to be had. Nice guys all (and girls!)

Gratis champagne flowed aplenty...most of it into me I think

Which may explain why I am now about to take delivery of a 1945 chrono GMT in white gold for a massive discount...and I mean MASSIVE to the point where it is merely expensive rather than extortionate.

I think I might chop the daytona at some point to appease the wife though...then I'm evens.
