Afternoon gents!

Having never really been into watches much (haven't worn one for nearly 5yrs), the thread regarding fakes on the P&P led me to the Werners site where I started getting very interested in some of the pieces there. My OH has always been of the opinion that a man should have a nice watch and as such wants to buy me something - not made of money so budget would be in the £200-400 range I would expect.

I particularly like the chronograph/aviation type, with a metal wristband, so really just wondering what I should be looking at in that price range and what I can expect to get in terms of movement type, build quality, longevity, servicing requirements, accuracy, that sort of thing. Would prefer brand new as opposed to pre-owned but would all depend on what's available.

Any info you can provide to a newcomer to this world is much appreciated!

Cheers!

If i were you i'd be looking at www.christoperward.com

I bought a C3 after being disappointed with a Warner's watch.
The quality on the C3 is fantastic, i wear the watch everyday.
If you search 'christoper ward c3' you will i posted a review in this forum.

Ditto for christopher ward - he has just launched the C8 pilot and C7 Rapide (looks like a Tag Carrera) and both are well within budget.

Have a look at Seiko on e-bay, but to honest the choice in that price bracket is huge.

Good luck on your search

Ta for that - really liking the look of the RCAF C4 chronograph...

Any other suggestions? Do things like TAGs come into that price range and is it worth opting for a more well-know brand or is that simply for those who want to buy into the marketing? OH really likes Festina watches but I haven't sen much of them.

In that price bracket I'd look at: Oris; Ollech & Wajs; Glycine; Time Factors and RLT.

Another vote for RLT here - great watches and value.

RLT sell a very tasty mil style chronograph made by O&W for something like £450. Ok its a bit above your target and comes on a strap ISTR but its a proper Valjoux auto mechanical chronograph with a sapphire crystal and nice mil style rotating bezel. To put into context there are many watches out there with similar spec and quality costing 5 times as much or more. Its a bit of a bargain and is on my list but I may end up getting an Oris chronoris instead because they are soooo cool.

I've had a good look at the RLT website and yes, the one that caught my eye is the O&W Chronograph with the Valjoux 7750 movement at a nudge under £500... smile
