Guys,

Posted on here a while back talking about Omega.

To cut a very long story short I received a Omega Seamaster for my 30th Birthday (My dream watch) from my lovely girlfriend now wife. After 26 months it just stopped and went in for a full service which thankfully was completed under warrenty (even though it had just expired).

After another 28 months the same thing happened just stopped over night. Took the watch back and again had it serviced (£220). By this time I was a bit disappointed.

Baby woke me up at 3.30am this morning but I was really confused because it was light outside - you've guessed it real time by the kitchen clock as I made his milk 7.30am.

I am gutted not only has it gone wrong again but I can't afford another £220 for a service. More importantly I don't think this should be happeneing to a £2k watch ?

What say you wise and wonderful ones - Have you any advice especially Dom H who talks alot of sense as I read the boards ?

Mechanical watches do need to be serviced on a reasonably regular basis. My watch dealer - www.lesambassadeurs.ch - suggested something like every 2-3 years for my Seamaster GMT unless you have problems. One thing I have noticed is that a service on an Omega in the UK is not the same as the service you get here in CH. It's worth dropping them an email to see what they say.

As an aside, a good mate of mine worked for Omega for 20 years including development of several generations of the Seamaster. I'll ask him and see what he suggests...

No, you've got something odd going on there. Have you contacted Omega themselves? Perhaps you should.

That's definitely not right. Agreed - Contact Omega UK - there's clearly an undetected issue (or issue swept under the carpet) here...

Hi Dominic,

No email as yet, have tested I can receive.

Am thinking should I just take it back to jewellers with receipt and warranty and see what they say ?
Don't want to be in a position where they send it away for 8 weeks and then it stops again in the New Year ? Any suggestions ?

Hi CHB, my numbers are on the website (check my profile). You should get a minimum of 12 months warranty on a service. Contact the store who handled the watch for you, any return job should be treated as a priority. Follow it up with a call to Omega UK, to ensure the watch is corrected asap.

Hope this helps.

Have written a very long letter of complaint and sent it to both the repair centre in Eastleigh with the watch and also to The Swatch Group UK (Owners of Omega).
Will keep you all posted and lets see what happens.
Thanks to Dominic for advice !

Update _

Have heard back from Omega. They say the damage was my fault and the movement has broken. They will however replace free of charge and clean the face and bracelet as a gesture of goodwill ?

Not sure if I am happy with this, not really sure what I was expecting, but to be told it's my fault and they are doing me a favor is a bit much I think. So am I being a bit sensitive and should really be happy that it is coming back to me with a new movement or should I press the matter ?

I would say take it, and be happy with it. After all they have no reason to lie about why they think its failed of they are offering to fix it regardless.

And besides what more could you hoe to get if you pressed the matter further anyway?

I think you might be right Okgo - as I said not really sure what I was expecting to be honest.

Pleased it will be back to me at last - adding it up since owning the watch it has been back with the repair centre a total of 21 weeks. 8 weeks first time round 9 weeks last time and now they are quoting 3 weeks for the new movement. That's almost half a year !
