...when faced with the financial fallout from wedding and honeymoon in the last fortnight, to consider buying a new watch for the collection...

So, I'm thinking of a new watch for the collection: I want timeless (no pun intended) simplicity in style, on a strap, and mechanical. I travel, so GMT function (if that's the right terminology) would be nice, but not essential. Budget up to, say, £300. New or used.

The Sinns posted on here had me looking at the 556, which I love (do they come up 2nd hand in budget?)...then I saw the Flieger 356 II...so that's an itch I will scratch when finances allow.

Someone has posted pics of the beautiful Stowa MO. Too expensive (though the automatic is getting close at €500...damn exchange rates), then I saw the Antea which looks very nice on a brown strap w/contrasting stitching.

Then the curve-ball. Poljot. I'm intrigued by the prospect of a Russian watch, I know there's a following for them, but I'm wary of the apparent abundance of fakes. The Alarm Traveller (handwound) looks a bargain at around £90 but I'm nervous of spending double that on the Automatic Traveller (though I prefer the display back).

Hope I've not trodden on toes by linking the above pics.

So, over to PH massive. Thoughts on the above? I'd have the Sinn tomorrow if it was a little cheaper (the more I spend on a watch erodes my hi-fi budget). The Stowa is looks lovely, and more delicate that the Sinn, and would be a real departure for me style-wise. Both the Poljots are very tempting and the variety of strap, back and clasp options fun for customising...

Am I missing anything obvious?

Have a look at www.christopherward.co.uk but have just re-read the requirements, the majority of his watches are quartz and a few automatics are starting to come through with the new range.

Has just launched some new watches and the majority of them should come in under budget. Very good quality and highly respected in the watch world

The Christopher Ward Pilot range is automatic.

In fact, there's quite a few automatics on the website. Most, if not all, of which are priced within the OP's range. The Malvern range seem to be very understated and have a nice display back.

I've taken long looks at both CW and Werners sites and, whilst I like a lot of what I see, not quite right this time around.
