Are some members smoking dodgy substances or consuming too much alcohol?

The recent spate of aggression displayed here is pitiful. This is supposed to be an open discussion place about watches. Name calling and dismissive responses to legitmate points raised by members are unwanted and pointless. Just because someone does not agree, it doesn't entitle anyone to, A. be aggressive or, B. rubbish anothers point of view.

Could those looking for a fight form an orderly que at the appropriate place and leave us better mannered types to discuss a subject we enjoy.

clap I agree entirely, there seems to be no shortage of people who take it as a personal insult when someone disagrees with a personal choice. The general aggression is quite sad really, though I prefer tz-uk as I find it a more open place and that type of attitude isn't really tolerated over there.
It could also relate to the changing demographic on PH as has been mentioned numerous times in the P&P

Hardly need to old boy, mines thicker than an elephant. I was simply pointing out that aggression is uneeded, as is your rather pointless post.
Bad language and verbally aggresive assault have led to one thread being locked by a mod recently. Need i say more rolleyes

Dude, this isn't the P&P, and we are generally better behaved. But it is a public forum, and you'll get all sorts. Ignore it. Post something positive and see who'll pitch in.

On the other hand, what do I know?

I had noticed it had a got a bit heated the other day, but can not say I am surprised really, it was bound to happen. But I think I can easily keep out of it.

TZ-UK is much friendly and better place for watch Talk, but I still like this forum , it makes an intresting read.

The problem wit this watch forum, is that for many, vanity and ego takes precedence...

Theres a lot of passive boasting, one-upmanship and general showing off and this tends to amplify peoples opinions about some brands.

I know what youre pissed off about, but personally, I feel that charging £4,000 for a Panerai watch is taking the piss to the tune of £3,000, at least. Each to their own eh?

I agree with the OP. I've been turned off contributing recently given the attitudes displayed.

I'm with you on this - seems to be happening on most of the PH forums these days. You used to be able to post an innocent question in many forums here but now you run the risk of getting pretty pointless attacks for no real reason

"Each to their own, eh?" pretty much sums it up in my view. The watch forum here was a real delight when I first discovered it. There were lots of people posting really great pictures of watches, no great sense that one had to be very qualified to be here, a wide spread of tastes to enjoy, and plenty of fellow enthusiasts.

Just lately I've noticed that a few posters seem to be quicker to criticise others choices, and not in a nice way, which means in turn that posters either feel the need to defend, or don't post at all. I've never had the great sense that people engage in any passive boasting, just that there are more people who vent their jealousy by sniping at the choices of others.

Fundamentally, watch ownership is a subjective choice. You like it, you paid for it, you want to wear it; that's good enough for me. If I like your watch, I'll say so. If I don't, I'll just keep my opinions to myself. I certainly won't be nasty. I act like this because watches are SUCH a personal choice that to be any different would be disrespectful. I'm glad that there are plenty of people here who act just like me, but I also wish that the small number of people who don't, would.

Too much to ask?

I don't believe i'm a hostile person but if you're calling me a moron because i bought something you don't happen to like, i'd like to meet you and have you say that to my face!
I only see you being aggressive in this thread: in response to being called names for buying an over-priced watch.

Yes I was the victim of this unprovoked attack by one of the fake loving shills that infest this part of the forum. It's a shame because it means us real enthusiasts are loath to post.

Perhaps people who post abuse like this should be banned?

Does this mean we are now going to have to pay for ring side seats?furious

On a serious note I have learned a considerable amount here and at TZ and thank you all for that. However, I can't understand how some people seem to get the inference that their manhood is being questioned just if we differ. It would be a sad grey world if there was only one post about a Rolex Daytona/Sub and everyone said "yes, that's for me". Well, wouldn't it?

The only problem that I can find with this forum is its propensity to empty my wallet..........

You deserved that, your own posts border on the obnoxious, and to be honest, are putting me of this forum.

I don't post much in here, but enjoy looking at peoples watches, reading stories behind them etc.
Your posts are just trying to be controversial for the sake of it, I think cyberface called it about right.

Thanks for your opinion, unlike others I won't respond to them with a load of abuse but will just politely file them under 'garbage to be ignored'. I don't think anyone's comments here deserve childish abuse but I guess that it just reflects their personality defects.

Like the 'real' world - I simply avoid the arguements and mud-slinging.

I suppose any forum is reflective of the general public to some degree and people will always disagree, have different agendas etc... only difference is the keyboard warriors are happy to gob off knowing that they won't get a slap in the mush.

I think this forum has been one of the, if not the, best and most civil since it started. Most of the posters have been here since the beginning when it was formed.

The silly aggression is a very recent phenomenon and everyone can see who it is and the fact that it's only a couple of people who are overtly hostile make them stand out.I expect they will get bored and leave soon.

It's just a forum about watches, there can't be too much to get upset about. smile

Time to lock out this thread I think. If this kind of thing continues I for one will give the forum a miss. I come here to learn and from time to time be quietly envious of some peoples acquisitions. I don't care if one can afford a Timex or a Patek Philippe - I just love watches and want to read and see them, not to see inflamed egos sparring.
