Well, after reciving my gorgeous A. Lange catalogue recently and subsequently ordering about a million more, I thought I would put up few brief reviews of each one as they come through my letterbox, just for the fun of it.

Yesterday, the Ulysse Nardin catalogue appeared and it's very nice, a hardback A5 book with the Ulysse Nardin logo and text embossed in gold on the cover. I received a UK price list and covering letter too and the catalogue begins with the company's history before diving straight into the watch collection and my word, they've certainly managed to cram a lot of watches in here, with some lovely close up photography. I also received a DVD which I have to yet watch, but is a nice touch. Unfortunately, compared to the masterpiece that is the A. Lange catalogue, the Ulysse Nardin example just can't compete.

Today, a rather small padded envelope was laying in the hallway when I came home and much to my surprise it contained the Patek Philippe Collection Highlights catalogue. This little borwn book, not quite A6 in size, features a matt cover with some spot varnish on the Patek text and a shiny gold logo. It's nice but I must say that I expected something more special from a watchmaker such as Patek and there was no letter or price list either. Inside, there's an introduction from Philippe Stern and a brief company history before we get to the watches and, once again, they've really crammed a lot in here. Aside from a few nice, close up shots, it's all a bit plain, and the catalogue is too small for you to really appreciate the detail on most of the watches.

And so, to the scores on the doors. All catalogues are being judged against the A. Lange tome, which I have awarded 10/10 because while it's possible that one or two others may match it, I doubt any will beat it. The Ulysse Nardin catalogue receives a healthy 8/10, helped by that DVD, while the Patek only gets a generous 7/10.
