Hi all,

I've got a Tag F1 with what I assume is a dead battery. I did pop into one jeweler who said that they'd have to send the watch away somewhere and that it would not only cost £55 but take SIX WEEKS!? Where are they sending it? The Moon?

Can anyone recommend any jewellers near Runcorn(e.g. Chester / Warrington) that can sort me out, or do these things always have to be sent away. The price seems steep and the time-frame crazy.

I know nothing about watches, go easy!

I have a an F1 that needed some work a year or so ago. Took it to a Tag dealer who sent it to a Tag service agent who replaced the glass, repaired some corrosion on the circuit board and fitted a new battery all for 70 quid. Wasn't going to bother but as I couldn't have bought a new watch anywhere near as good for that sort of money I thought it was reasonable value. Came with a years guarantee as well. Though it did take about 6 weeks.

Any competent watch repairer should be able to change the battery in an F1, I even changed one myself once with nothing more than a screw driver (although I wouldn't recommend this).
If the wettest it gets is the pool on hoilday or in the shower the seal 'should' be fine, I'd be feeling ripped off if the bill was more than a fiver and took longer than 5 minutes.
Obviously if you regularly dive to 50m then get it sorted at Tag, one thing to remember though is if the battery is left flat in the watch for too long it can leek and take out the movement, so sort it sooner rather than later. wink

I've only ever used LVMH in Manchester, the other option is Cheal Watch.

Eek, best get a move on, it's been a few of months!

Thanks for the replies guys, I don't dive at all so it just needs to resist splashes really. I'll get it sorted, cheers for the shop pointers langy.

Just to add that I would never, ever send my Tag off to LVMH ever again. Ever. It needed the battery changed and they pretty much ruined the watch. They can go fk themselves as far as I'm concerned - worst watch customer service ever. I will only be sending it off to Tag in Switzerland from now on. Not to try and put you off or anything...

To be honest if I didn't have a watch man I trust with all my watches, battery changes, regardless of the watch in question cost me about £3, my Tag F1 leeked because I left it months, the joys of having more than 1 watch, and even with a new movement the cost was only about £30, I'd be looking on fleebay for 'watch tools' and doing it myself, batterys are peanuts and the tools are about £5-£10. rotate

Timpsons the shoe repairers and Key cutters change the battery and pressure test for about 20 quid which is more reasonable. They also claim to offer some sort of warranty but I am not sure what it covers
