I know this is a really novice thing to ask but im looking at purchasing an omega in the next few weeks. Im looking at the seamaster and speedmaster and currently really like the white faced speedmaster chrono

now ive read around and i know a lot of the guys say the only omega to have is the original moon speedie but im just getting into watches and really like the look of the white faced chrono

i also want an auto as a starter watch rather than a watch i have to self wind

so i will be looking around to try and find the best price, i live in Cheshire and was wondering if anyone in the area new any good places to go and haggle?

Im close to manchester city centre and the trafford centre, stoke, chester areas

i will be paying cash as i presume i have a better chance or haggling if i have the notes?!

i dont want to walk into somewhere like beaverbrooks and get laughed out for trying to haggle, is it just local dealers who will flex on the price or will highstreet stores be willing to budge on the rrp as well?

thanks in advance guys your help is appreciated

No dealer (high street chains included) worth his salt will laugh at you for haggling - not if they actually want to make a sale! I'm sure someone better informed than me can suggest where to pitch your offer, but maybe start 20% below asking price and be prepared to walk away if they don't budge. There are always other dealers who will be willing to do the deal, especially when they see your wedge!

I'd try a few dealers and see who gives you the best deal and be upfront about the fact that you're serious about buying the same day.

As for what you buy, it's your money and you're going to be looking at it about 20 times a day for the next who knows how many years so make sure you buy the one you like, regardless of other peoples' opinions on the style or the brand.

Cheers, and don't forget the pics when you've bought one

I've found goldsmiths at the trafford centre would knock an easy £200 quid off an omega no problem for cash and i'm sure theres more in it.

Just be as shrewd as you want with a bid, if they don't entertain you theres plenty mroe dealers.
Best of luck

Be prepared for some negative responses. I went to several jewellers when I was looking for a Breitling and asked for their 'best price'. They all knew what I meant by this, but quite a few just quoted the RRP and glared at me like I'd just asked to f**k their sister.

The best discount offered was from a large chain, but it varies from store to store and also depends on what they have in stock.

How about the Speedmaster 'Reduced' ?? Moonwatch looks but automatic movement...

Bid them in the nuts. I imagine they're all finding selling prestige watches pretty tough in the current climate so will do a deal...

Here

http://www.omega.ch/index.php?id=305#

It's pretty much identical to the 'moonwatch' but has an automatic rather than manual movement. The sub dials are in a slightly different position/order too...

I had one as my first 'expensive' watch. Bought it brand new for about £750 whilst at uni... I think they're just north or a grand brand new now!!

there are a couple of good jewellers/watch dealers in the Cheshire/Manchester area, Google these

Mark Worthington Jewellers

Ancient and Modern (ask for Johnny)

Not connected with either but bought watches off both at good savings

I'll second that.
Got a good discount on a Breitling from the Wilmslow shop.

talk to dominic_h, and buy a moon watch. You won't regret it, and you'll soon get the hang of winding it. I'd put money on it being far more depreciation proof than the White face too.
