Wow - A. Lange & Sohne catalogue
Discussion
This arrived in the post today and I can't believe you don't have to pay for it. It's simply stunning, beautifully put together with amazing photography, the history of the company and the Saxony region and technical articles explaining the various aspects of the company's numerous movements, all printed on some of the finest paper I've ever had the pleasure of handling. It certainly helps you to understand why the cheapest A. Lange & Sohne timepiece is £8800 - if you have even the slightest interest in and appreciation of fine watches, then you need to order a copy.
It is lovely - had to throw mine away as the day after I got it my darling fiancé tipped a cup of coffee over it (perhaps on purpose - I'll never know...).
Another good one to go for is the Glahütte Original catalogue and especialy the DVD - it's very interesting and again shows why these things cost what they do. - You can order from their wesite free on the 'contacts' page.

Well after getting this catalogue I went online yesterday evening and ordered catalogues from just about every high end Swiss watch maker you'd care to mention! The IWC one is excellent too (a colleague picked one up free from Watches of Switzerland on Cornhill)... I've contacted Franck Muller because I want to know whether they make a particular watch I like in the smaller size (they do two sizes and the big size is vulgar as hell) - according to the London office, FM doesn't have a catalogue yet but is in the process of making one, maybe later this year.
I'd be very interested in this, especially if it goes into detail about some of the ultracomplication pieces FM has shown each year - the Aeternitas watches (whilst unwearably big unless you happen to be a polar bear) are fantastically over-complicated exercises in excess and it'd be fun to learn how all those complications fit together and work...
